Anybody watch last night..

This is going to be a TUFF season.. Most of my faves have returned.. Also, new host and judges.. Seems funny without Tim Gunn saying "Make it Happen". All in all
I am going to enjoy watching it..

Don't know how to post the images so you can see who is on this season..

Someone more tech savy than I can do that. Someone got voted off last night but I won't tell who in case someone wants to watch it..

When I was in Jamaica late November, I saw a commercial about a similar Project Runway like show with Jamaican designers. Anyone familiar with it or know if I can get it on the Internet??

A dress inspired by the Jamaican flag won the challenge last episode, designed by the talented Mondo.





i love the dress. but to my consternation, a lot of people are saying it doesn't say Jamaica. one person even said it did not use the Jamaican colours. Which leads me to ask, "what the hell do people think represents Jamaica?"

but T, the designer picked the Jamaican flag. everybody could see it. theres no blasted red in the Jamaican flag. so is not ongle dem ignorant, dem blind to!

Mgee, unfortunately, when people think of island people (especially Jamaica) them usually think flamboyant, loud, and gaudy. Sophistication, demur, and tasteful doesn't come to mind.

It saddens me, but if smaddy not drape in gold bangle, see-through knits, and them head isnt dreaded...di ignoramuses dont say Jamaica.

From my experience with people from various countries and culture, when they think of Jamaicans, they think of beautiful faces and voices, people who are demure, soft-spoken, and multi-talented. In my adult life experience, there is always the desire to be around the Jamaican. (Unless a me them just love and want to be around. lol!) In all my life mi neva hear of what you just allude to below. Unless, I live in a closeted world but perhaps you are fueling a stereotype which many of us aren't even aware of ILP.

THAT is my experience too SandiF. I usually get favourable opinions of Jamaicans too. In my case in majority of instances they have visited or have friends who have been there.
Or may be it's because they want to have me on their side under the circumstances we usually meet.

Ok, so this is just your experience, which is the opposite of my own. That said, I'm curious how many times you've had such an experience where Jamaicans as a people are posited in the adjectives you've used? I'm just curious because any time I see things like what was posted above, I say to myself,<span style="font-style: italic"> &quot;Hmm..how come I've never heard or experienced that before?&quot; </span> It has led me to believe that folks will take one or two (perhaps isolated) personal experience or incident as being a fact.

Your experience is different from my own; however, should you use your experience as some basis of fact... Which is how it came across when I read it.

bold #2 - prezackly what mi get (bless god it not as often as i used to), but since mi move come ah texico...when it does happen the stereotypes (directly stated to my face) are doozies. the last one had to do wid red stripe in a can..if mi wasnt laughing so hard (which shame di smaddy more) mi woulda [censored] slapped them.

Unfortunately, the statement in bold is perpetuating and fueling a stereotype since that is not what many people think of people from the Caribbean and especially Jamaica. It may be ILP's experience but that does not mean that is what people necessarily think of Jamaicans, etc. I'm sure you understand and clearly can see that...
