the only one that makes some sense to me is George Clooney, as he is quite politically active and outspoken --(in fact he just got arrested today for protesting inhumane conditions in Sudan) - but all the other entertainers just seem extra, and not relevant in any way to anything having to do with government affairs.

I don' t know about the political contributions thing in other countries. But I do know here in the USA many actors donate heavily and use their faces and celebritness to encourage others to give.

A famous face with deep pockets supporting my reelection = invite to state dinner. IMHO
