mi glad mi have few people weh can relate.

so we deh a di last day a freshers week. as a freshman (fresher) u get inducted and as uwi people call it, u get ragging to be found worthy before u get inducted. di senior dem tell we seh di university see u as a number. we see u as people. we care for u, hence we rag u. dem tell di administration, we do not rag our freshers. we teach them the ropes of the univeristy, we help them make the transition. liars [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad2.gif[/img]

5 o'clock a mawning dem knock pot a u door tell u fi rope out, march u down to di Bowl (bout 2 miles away) inna di cowl and rag u likkle butt. di man dem get thrown inna di pool, dunked and haffi come up roaring (literally). dem all carry wi pon hike uppa di top a hill before daylight and tell we fi wax (as in di man dem haffi try lyrics off a girl) and tell each other dirty jokes. mi did too young fi appreciate dat.

anyway, i digress. di night when all dis torture was to end, mi had a fellow seacolite fren who was also sporting a wave nouveau. mi figet fi mention dat in addition to di white sheet and pony tail, we had to wear flip flops and carry a candle. so we all line up and ting a wait fi di agony and di threat of being fed pelipoo (di ish of a pelican caw di pelican was seacole mascot). den mi hear dis rucuss inna back. mi fren who was taller dan mi was rung a back inna di line and di smaddy backa har dida gaze and har candle ketch mi fren wave nouveau hair. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img] mi fren did set a fire.

and dat was di day dat i knew dat there had to be another way ... until then mi resolve fi stay weh from fire.

mi enter the workworld and by dis time nuhbaddy nuh like the jehri curl look nuh more. so mi go back to di perm but at least now mi cud afford fi pay fi it. mi still did have dat spot inna di back a mi head but at least now mi could comb mi hair inna one. so dat was a trusty hairstyle till mi lik howard university.

wat a fashion show dat damn place was. fimi ugly duckling insecurities start again. mi did have a male mentor wen mi dida work a yard who did encourage mi fi go howard. him did go deh and used to tell mi bout how di man dem wuda salivate a soon as spring bus caw every ooman did inna dem shorts. mi never appreciate weh him a talk bout till mi ketch a di campus. everybody look like dem a try gi tyra a run fi har money.

mi decide seh mi cyaan compete wid dat. mi was not fashion forward, mi nuh have time or money fi keep up so mi decide fi do mi ting. but mi used to admire di africans and how dem wrap dem head. di day i learn fi wrap mi sarong round mi head was a good day [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img]. mi hide unda dat wrap fi YEARS I tell u.

mi figet fi mention di ooman a dc who sheg up mi head. mi hair start come outt inna clumps. so dis was di second time mi tun a bald head. but mi did like it. mi was older and wiser and mi and mi fren just go a mac go get free makeover. nuhbaddy inna DC neva cute like mi.

but mi still neva lef out di perm tho. mi did just learn how fi strategically mask mi bald spot inna di back.

as wid everybody, sooner or later u start look pon u life closer. and mi realize seh dis hair ting absorb nuff a mi life. and mi know seh dere was sinting wrong wid di picture. mi did buck up one website weh did attempt fi teach mi bout why mi hassle miself fi mek mi hair do tings dat was damaging mi - mi blackness, mi health, mi self esteem.

mi neva lissen too tuff. but some a di message did get thru. mi chop off mi hair again. mi did just buy a house, mi decide seh mi busy and is as good a time as any fi start over. but mi give into di chemicals and get a mild texturizer.

dis is mi 3rd chop

ladyz, mi tink mi did tell u dis and mi get di feeling seh a nuh dis u was looking for.

anyway, mi deh pon di left coast. if u go any fabric store, head to anything with a little stretch in it. this particular one is a silk fabric but anything with stretch will do. just walk the store and feel di fabric. di lighter the better. good luck.
