mi reach high school and mi still have di hair obsession. mi reach wolmers and mi was a likkle gladdis [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]. u fi see mi inna mi first form school picture. mi had in the trusted 2 inna back and 3 inna front. now mi look pon it, mi clear bubbles inna di miggle plait a front did not complement di big grin and mi farrid (don't ask, is a diffrant journey dat [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70456-eyebrows.gif[/img] ) .

most pickney inna mi class did get permission fi get dem hair cream (we never used to call it perm) or at least press by dem time here. mi still was a kid aspiring to have mi hair comb in 1.

so mi cousin and madda used to press mi hair fi mi a few time. but wid di whole heap a running round weh mi used to do when mi a play inna portmore housing scheme, it always a sweat out quick quick.

so when di stove tun off and di hair still hot and mi can run mi fingas thru it mi was a happy child. mi used to shake mi head to di point of a headache caw suddenly mi hair can move [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bannana_purple.gif[/img]. nutten neva nice suh. nuhbaddy cuden seh nutten to mi and chances are mi nah bade till monday mawning lest di hair get wet inna di shower.

afta mi aise bun nuff time and ting we move on to di cream phase. mi mussi was in 3rd form by dis and mi did have a best friend from portland who was half indian. not one a di faker dem. u know how everybody used to have indian inna dem. well fi har modda sidea di family di really come from india.

but when ducta a drip dem jerri curl juice pon u, mi see schoolmate wid dem dutty collar, hear bout di nasty pillow case situations mi decide seh mi cannot endure dat.

well mi did have a sistren cross di nedda housing scheme who prips mi bout wave nouveau. she tell mi seh it dry and nuh nawsey nawsey like jheri curl. say no more - u had me at "wave" [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/breakdance.gif[/img]


mi was a proponent of wave nouveau fi months! mi hair grow su till mi move from di likklest rod dem (a tink dem was blue) till mi cuda get mi hair set wid di big gray or white one dem. and she did haffi wrap mi hair more dan 4 time roun it. yes, mi used to measure my worth by how many times di hairdresser had to wrap mi hair round di biggest rod. den di wave nouveau money run out inna di miggle a 5th form mock exams. mi did do 9 subjects so mi was a busy ooman and stress and di lack of curl activator took it's toll on me. di hair start bruk off inna di worst kinda way.

mi uniform was always clean, mi socks dem white, mi shoes polish and shine every day but i was tore up from di neck up [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img]

mi really never know weh fi do. no man was rushing me and mi never really into boys yet so being solution-oriented i mek a likkle trip to di barber shop.

u know dem seh every woman shud experience short hair fi realize dem oomanhood. hair is not all u are about. well mi did too young fi learn it before when mi head di picky picky as a toddler. but i sure learned it as a 5th former.

mi get him shave off di whole a mi head and save a likkle at the top in a peak.

imagine going to an all girl school so everybody automatically have u off as a lesbian (which isn't a bad ting but back den it was). i was di butchest ting at wolmers fi a few months [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/fight.gif[/img] .

di hair grow back and mi live a contented life fi a few more years. den mi ketch a UWI. is freshers week. mi deh pon seacole hall. is di last night a freshers week and our brothers from chancellor hall and sisters are gathered to make our lives a collective hell. dem order we fi wrap wiself inna white sheet and comb wi hair inna 2 (di pippy long stocking kinda 2). and i was proud dat mi cud dweet widdout batting an eye [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img]. i was happy to proudly hand mi money to di makers and brokers of wave nouveau.
