You know I started a thread in DearK a while back asking what is "sexy". I went to a church ova suh and cause mi was speaking mi wear mi hat, long sleeve jacket with a nice top almost to mi neck and long skirt to mi ankle. Basically you could see part of my face cause mi pull down the hat and my hands. Yet several men referred to me as being sexy. That one still has me scratching my head in light of the above article. Earlier tonight, mi Apostalic preacher friend made the comment that although mi always cover up, mi is sexy. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whatever.gif[/img]

Ephra, I do agree with you on some of the so-called fashion I see in the church...but when do men stop blaming what a woman is wearing and start blaming their thoughts.

boy, me just read the article, and bleive it or not, me understand wha the guys dem a seh..
Me also understand ooman fashion, but really, if you is a true child of God, u fe dress modestly man..
Some oomen come a church inna mini, and cleavage a show, and dat noh right..
Is like dem want to bring the world straight up inna de church pews and dat noh right needer..
Me understand de ooman dem a go fight me pon dis, but me a ooman too, and de tings me see sometimes, all me can do is put me hand over me mouth..
where is the spirit of dissernment in knowing how fe dress appropriately..

I've told you all from 19 how long that men have set up rules since the beginning of time to control women and suppress their sexuality because THEY can't handle the pressure AND because they know if women were free to act on their own sexual impulses like they do without stigma, most men would not stand a chance.

Mmmmm...I think society sets certain norms but within the Church, there has to be a standard set, though not always agreed on, or Lord knows some of what some people would wear to these places of worship. Key words - "places of worship". First time Adam saw Eve, I think he was captivated by her presence, as she was by his, but it wasn't until the Fall, that Scripture teaches they both became ashamed of what they saw of each other. Whether we blame men for not controlling their thoughts and/or women for not dressing modestly, I don't think either of those options matter in that I believe that in the fellowship, both are responsible for each other.

I take the position that because most men, and some women, are more visually stimulated, and given our over-sexed society where we are bombarded with sexual images and stimulations of all kinds, a place of worship should be a place of "safe refuge" from those distractions. If men could control their thoughts to the point where they can shut out the visual stimuli at will, or center it solely on the person of our affection, things would be wonderful, and pigs could fly. But the fact of the matter is that we can't, and the Church becoming more desensitized to immodesty does have an impact on worship for both genders. Modesty, IMO, is motivated by self-respect and appreciation for one's own body, and it is because of this bodily self-respect that the modest individual keeps it private, when in public.

This Christian journey is a process, and because we have not all arrived, so to speak, we have to be real with the issues we face. Now if a woman is modestly and classily attired and a brother still have a problem, he has issues, though it could also be that he confuses admiration with sensuality. In the meantime, I don't care to see VPLs, steep cleavages, breasts barely covered, peeping underwear, or whatever else when I go to Church. Lord knows, I see enough of them in the downtown core everyday where the assualt on the mind is relentless.

Seriously though, I'm glad that at least one female has acknowledged understanding the issue. I grew up with two sisters, and I recall when they were getting ready for church, they would stand in the front of the mirror and check everything out. So much so that if the shape of their legs could be seen through their skirts/dresses, even with slips, they would change the skirt/dress. Blouses/tops fell well below the waistline. When I saw them last year, I noticed they still had those habits, and yes, I was proud of them.

My daughter is now a teenager, n me tell u, me check har from head to foot if she come out with something too tight..
She is a young lady dat just a find harself, and if she even put on sinting tight, she a tell me seh,
"Mommy, I dont want to wear dis"
and she changes..

Except in today's Western society, there's nothing in place to suggest men want women to suppress their sexuality. Isn't the advertising mantra "Sex Sells" clearly visible in just about all forms of media and on just about every billboard?
