ashamed to say i've never seen a hitchcock movie. aldoah mi memba di tv show weh use to come on every sunday wen mi did likkle.

wizard of oz was on tvo not long ago. watched it. it's lovely. they had interviews (remember elwy yost(sp)?). anyway, one person said that those flying monkie costumes were helll under all dem kleig lights that all the flying monkies were up there going "when the fack are we gonna come down from here" kinda stuff [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

modern comedy classic, well not quite, but the humour is absurd like monthy python and mountaingal, just brought it to mind.

I'm determined to show this movie to my "gels" one day...fabulous movie, explores themes of girls' emerging sexuality in a way that would not be acceptable today. Also had a heroine who supported facism! The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

nope it stands. first saw it in a salon where i was getting a pedicure. stayed long after my pedicure was done. then i had to hunt it down at the video place.

I have to watch this again..I read the book when I was way young and I've seen the movie..but I don't think I really understood it

And though it had its moments, its nowhere near the league of Monty Python...

I mean, it was soooo sophomoric...ugh...

it's that kind of movie, Arjen. I got it after watching it a couple of times, and no doubt when i watch it again, i'll understand more.

Miss Jean Brodie is the conceited schoolmistress who acts unconventional because she thinks she's better than everybody else. Her "gels" are considered special because they take her classes, and she binds them into some sort of code of loyalty to her. There's an artist teacher who is in love with her but who I think is married (cyaan member), and there's another teacher who loves her but she thinks he's too ordinary for her. The climax of the movie is when some poor child who wants to get Miss Brodie's approval goes to fight on the side of the fascists in some war and gets killed, and the rest of the girls turn on her. One of them sleeps with the artist teacher, i think out of spite, but when the artist does the girl's portrait, he gives her Miss Brodie's eyes, so the girl's revenge is blunted. Miss Brodie is undone at the end of the movie, and shouts "Assassin" at the girl who was the cause of her downfall.

What about Grand Hotel

The 1932 film, set at Berlin's ritzy, opulent art-deco Grand Hotel, tells the multiple-narrative story of the criss-crossing of the lives of five guests, whose fates intertwine for a two-day period at the hotel:

(1) an aging, suicidal, isolated, fragile, and lonely-for-love Russian ballerina named Grusinskaya (Greta Garbo).

(2) the noble, elegant, dashing Baron Felix von Gaigern (John Barrymore), in reality, financially broke and a gentleman jewel thief, who falls in love with the Greta Garbo character

Cheech and Chong meet up by chance on the highway somewhere in California. They go in search of some dope and are accidentally deported to Mexico where in their desperation to get home they agree to drive a van back to the States so they can get back in time for a gig they are due to play. Unaware of the properties from which the van is constructed they make their way back having aquired a couple of female hitch-hikers whilst all the time avoiding the cops whom they are not even aware are following them.

Faber College has one frat house so disreputable it will take anyone. It has a second one full of white, anglo-saxon, rich young men who are so sanctimonious no one can stand them except Dean Wormer. The dean enlists the help of the second frat to get the boys of Delta House off campus. This film gives high-jinks and fooling around a bad name. The dean's plan comes into play just before the homecoming parade to end all parades for all time.

Thanks to a run of bad luck and go-nowhere jobs, John convinces Russell to join the army so they can get in shape, likening it to a health spa. Once in boot camp, wiseguy John tangles with his by-the-book Sgt. and becomes the unofficial leader for his platoon, made up mostly of other misfits and assorted losers. After somehow making it through graduation, they are given a special assignment but, thanks to John's romantic interest in a pretty MPO, the other men wind up behind the Iron Curtain until John, Russell, their dates and Sgt. Hulka make a daring rescue attempt in explosive style.
