and additionally , remittances cannot be counted as part of GDP....money i man sen fi i man fambily fi live is not goods and services produced in a fiscal year....where is the longterm planning and development of infrastructure possible from that figure

say now that we here in North America gwine to have to retrench the amount we spend as out own expensed mount due to the dismal oil situation we facing...memba dat is not ongle we cyar dat ile price a go affect...we groceries, we bank loans fi house , cyar etc, not to mention we credit...

so if we have to cut back on our own spending here cause salaries not matching inflation right now, we gwine to have to ask we fambily fi bind dem belly toooo....

so wat happen to remittances....and again, dat is apart from the fact that they r not GDP in the true sense etc etc etc...

mi hear yu, tourism send my uncle dem through UWI cause a one restaurant grandfolks own a ochi so mi know the potential, but we mash up wi self cause cruise ship folks could a walk and shop a wi restaurant pon main street and what happen in late 80's... same locals dem scare dem whe wid the foolishness, so big man seh ..mi ago mek Taj Mahal and later Island village and pay the tour bus and taxi man fi ongle drop dem yah so..and keep all the money fi mi self, now hard rock cafe a build three blocks from the old restaurant we had (they lost the lease because the upkeep too much with no walk in traffic), cant buy that place now 48 million dollar dem want fi the land, yes in Ochi land is that expensive. We shoot wi self in the foot and give whe alot of tings, but we also need fi re-group, re-assess (tap blame big man) and come up with a plan, and learn from the past. Mi vow pon mi last visit the grandson will bring back we family name to Ochi, mi naw cry over spill milk, nuff opportunity exist now.

i try not to sound jaded but let me explain how i come to see things ....regarded of where u r in the world, and the circumstances of the situation, the one unchangeable variable that predominates, is human nature

let me juss say dis to show u how man seems to foreva gi een to greed

case in point the current wave of Christian tourism to the Middle East...and i really should not afford them the capital ' C' because the behaviour is in no way Christian

among the many magazines i subscribe to is one named Christian Archaeology....much lamenting re the incidence of North American tour guides coercing locals into paying them lumps sums (amount quoted was US$12,000)to ensure that they steer their well heeled tourists into the local ventures

and before people feel seh tourism not going awn to the Middle East , please to remember that the region is vast and not ongle Americans r travellers....many others still make the trek cause faith should win out over threat to life...neva understood why the Pope used a bulletproof vehicle.... I know you're sceptical and there is a stigma against tourism, but actually religious tourism is a good way to get tourism $$, Jamaica's religious leaders can spur this in the first instance, by getting their counterparts in the US for example, to hold conventions in the country.

That is not true. People with less than what she has now was in charge of a lot of things in gov back in the forties, fifties, and sixties in jamaica and Jamaican politics. This is the reason why she reached out in the first place, she saw that the opportunity existed and still exist. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

It wasn't easy back then for black people to get a good formal higher education. Who couln't afford to send them chickens abroad to study get left, and some of their children became members of project JAMAL. Back then if you nuh marry money,and/or come from money you can think of having a harder struggle to achieve a good education.

The PHDs are not doing anything for Jamaica either.

The lady with only an undergraduate degree will create much more if all work hand in hand to help har build for all our futures.

She nuh need nuh higher degree than being in the trenches for over 30 years a fight for what she believe. Big up to the PM. Rising from the bottom and working her way up to the top.
