This story is dedicated to Bandanna and all those who have a hard time believing in the word, concept and union of love. The word LOVE has been so tainted, redefined to fit the times, destroyed and misused...
Believe, that there are a few angels, human and spiritual that are keeping it sacred for those of us who seek it with or without knowing if it still truly exist...
Please note that this is a story of fiction... or is it
<font color="purple"> Part I - Serenity's Peace... </font>
Seren had finally found some peace in her life. She believed God had finally ended her struggle and put her on a somewhat smooth path. Coming out of the hood, children at an early age, way to many failed relationships to name, and living paycheck to paycheck, she was almost now living the dream in all those independent woman, self help books she had read! The ones that convince you, you don't need a man to be whole.
Yeah she still had a fear of driving, but her job was down the street from her home, her rent cheap, she and the children had plenty to eat. They both attended the best schools in Florida and lived in a suburban neighborhood with a diversity of friends. The family could even take in a movie every now and again. That use to be a luxury not only far in between but most times out of reach.
Seren dated less frequently on her way to a peaceful existence. Somewhere along the way she became cold and indifferent to suitors. Most times she stopped them at hello. Something about a woman going to work, picking up her kids, and shopping for groceries drove a man crazy. At least the ones who she attracted.
For some reason there seemed to be an onslaught of uneligible bachelors, who lived with "someone else", trying to remove themselves from whatever situation they were in.
A married guy, who obviously loved her to curse him out on a regular basis, exclaimed one day, "You must be from Chicago, Florida women don't give you such a hard time".
"NO!!" she shouted! I've got enough sense not to mess with a married man, who says he wants to leave his wife, tells me to take off work, invites himself over my house at 10:00 am, and demands me to be naked with a bottle of wine on chill!! Who the heck drinks at 10 am in the morning!! After all that, he said "so your not down for it?"
She could smell them a mile away, if they got past dinner and she allowed them a few more dates, all of a sudden they were hinting at moving in. She prepared a stop them in their tracks speech, memorized for such an occassion.
"The next man that lives with me will have to marry me". Usually that sent them running for easier prey. Hilariously, some actually came with a small ring and proposed. She smirked, knowing their bags were probably in the trunk of the car.
How shocked and defeated they always looked when she said, lets set the date, begin looking for a house we both can own and move in together as man and wife....
It became a game, a right of passage to destroy these predators. She lectured to any woman that would listen, to follow her lead and fight the loneliness that leads us down such dark paths with promises of nothing.
Of course the women looked at her like she was a nut case! LOVE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE was Seren's new theme song... She was out to venomously destroy any man that dared cross her path with such bs.
<font color="purple"> Part II - Serenity's Betrayal </font>
...HE was her weakness ... HE had done her so wrong, HE now had two children, by two different women and she left him right where she had finally heard the truth... Jamaica.
She walked through the airport like a ghost, he still had the prepared K1 package in his hand, during the entire trip she couldn't figure out why he wouldn't just sign his name and make it official. He kept putting it off, now she knew... she had forgiven the first transgression, now a new child.. a new child??? Only months after the first! With... another woman??? Her mind spun, this is not how her fantasy played out. Tears burned her face, the sting of confused, angry tears. He said he loved her, it was just... she means nothing to... His words became more faint as the reality took hold of her consciousness.
All her hard work, the packet was perfect, their pictures, correspondence, affidavits... She didn't quarrel with him,she couldn't quarrel with him, the scream seemed to be caught in her prideful throat.
Seren arrived home with no memory of the flight taking off or landing. Her food was placed and gathered without her acknowlegement. No signed K1, No Damon, No wedding. Hope and Happinesses stayed in Sangster International along with the part of her spirit he had claimed. There it would stay for the next 6 years.
Everything inside her still ached for Him, even in maintaining her strength not to involve herself with Him ever again.
That part of her loved and cried for who they use to be in Negril, in the pictures, loving, laughing. She could still hear Him calling her by HIS last name, through the window of His mother's home. She loved the way He would wake her up,coming through the bedroom door with a tasty breakfast He would feed to her every morning. He spoiled her, she was His Queen and he treated her accordingly.
She still called Him sporadically, just wanting to hear Him say "I made a mistake, please forgive me". Lately He had become a stranger, a beggar, so distasteful, aggressive and annoying, but still she held on to something, anything to change what had split them wider than the sea... He almost crossed to forever be with her. Why couldn't she give HIM the speech, the cold touch... WHY WAS HE HER WEAKNESS?
<font color="purple"> Part III Serenity's Destruction </font>
Seren's life because so full of spirit, feverishly she wrote a two page poem one evening. A woman possessed with God. It basically stated, God is the only man I can trust. He provides my every need, all I have to do is ask. Who needs a corporal man when you've got God on your side.
She sent it to all her girlfriends who ranted and raved, "yeah girl thats right!" "You can tell the spirit was with you Serene when you wrote this" were most of the reponses she received. She celebrated her 39th birthday, home alone, no girlfriends, no date, no one. Her best girl from back home called to wish her a happy and they laughed about something in the past until they cried. Seren fell asleep saying "I'm not lonely", "life is good", "God has my back".
What's WRONG BABY?!? Stop Crying and tell me whats wrong? Seren's mother tried to calm her daughter down. Seren??? are the kids fine? Are you sick?? Please baby tell me whats wrong??? Seren found herself crying uncontrollably, little did she know what she was in for... The peace Serene found was about to be undone, torn down and the peaceful foundation she thought she firmly planted all her hopes, dreams and life on, was about to crumble... to nothing!
