How would things be different? Considering the evidence that Africans arrived in the "Americas" before the Spanish and Portuguese did, I would think that America would be MORE brown...Africans and "Native Americans" would live in peace and possibly combine their customs and ways of life.
I really believe that people of African descent would be more of a "player" in this game of life on earth and we would have more power had it not been for slavery.
Most African cultures value family and community. Perhaps the spread of capitalism and "democracy" would have been slower?

some africans provided the opportunity for slavery - many slaves were captured by other tribes or their locations were disclosed by people of the same color
and today the genocide we are experiencing in dafar and the sudan - are black on black crimes - and the people left in africa don't appear to be doing any better than us and most were not enslaved "america style"
the sense of family and community did not prevent this - and there were a lot less people to commune
i have gotten over the slavery issue - as a matter of fact i feel like "i'm the strongest of the strong" - in order for me to be here today - i know i came from some exceptional stock - and i take pride in that [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]
and i'm not sure slavery was the issue - other people were enslaved - i think it's being "black"Comment

care to elaborate?
I must say that the Slavs of Eastern Europe would be a parallel where the gypsies receive the lower end of their bad treatment - so having seen that, I would say that slavery is a big part of it all. But your explanation could bring interesting things to the table. To be black before or after slavery?Comment

i don't think slavery or no slavery is not the issue
i don't think most of us feel the "pain" of slavery in our day to day lives
thus we are the same as if slavery hadn't existed now (only we don't live in Africa anymore)
the issue is people of color are the "low man on the totem pole" in the USA - and that includes East Indians, Mexicans, Asians as well as blacks
and they are low man on the totem pole most places in the world - even Africa - among "brothers" remember Idi?Comment

do you think that anybody aware that he is black does not feel the effects of slavery? alone the abstraction that you originate from africa alone is enough to leave some scar on the mind. how each person deal with it is a different matter maybe.
