When I first came to Ja.com I posted a few times then left in a huff because I thought the women on this board were the evilest women God ever created. I didn't get into any wars and I didn't make a big stink about leaving - but I talked about you guys something terrible behind your backs.
Being the nosy person I am, I came back several months later just to see what the world's most evil women were up to. Instead of posting, I just kept reading threads. Then I started noticing patterns of behavior. I started realizing how much of what I thought was evilness and rudeness was really horseplay. I also started understanding patois a little better. Words I thought were insulting were not always an insult.
When I started posting and someone finally felt comfortable enough to joke with me I WAS DELIGHTED! Because it meant (to me) that I "belonged" and my sense of humor was trusted and accepted.
About two months ago a newbie came on the boards looking for a Jamaican man. We teased her about her post and she FLAMED us. But then she calmed down, came back, and apologized. I thought she was so cool because it didn't take her more than one thread to "get" it and join in the community.

I also learned that the people who are well liked on this board are well liked for a reason. So when people throw a lot of support their way it isn't a clique or favoritism - that person has earned respect/admiration/affection from the people who respect, admire and have affection for Jamaicans.com. If someone were to flame Grandma2 or Tea or Ensom (or many others) they would be met with a lynch mob. Usually someone will try to be the voice of reason to help the new person adjust to patois, or cynical humor, or the history of a joke, etc. Some people accept the advice and try for a new start. Some people stand firm and bullheaded, refusing olive branches, hugs, and second chances.
witchy, get out of my typing fingers this minute before this becomes the longest post in Ja.com history
Well I just wanna thank the world's evilest women for all the laughs and support you've brought me. I'm glad I hung around long enough to "get" it.
((((evil oomen))))
