When I say foreigner, I was speaking of all foreigners. I consider Africans to be foreigners because they weren't born where I was born. This is not to say that I dislike Africans. I have always had good relations with Africans, but since I am Jamaican, I am always going to promote Jamaica over everyone else. I can see that Jamaica is similar in some ways to some African countries, unlike Jamaica and the U.S.

I've seen dreadlocks on Indian ascetics, and homeless people who don't have benefit of a comb.

Photos of central Australian aborigines from the early 1900's show the men with long dreads pulled back and wound up in pretty much the same style that Jamaican rastas wear their hair. I guess a sweaty neck is uncomfortable no matter which side of the world you're on. And anyway without combs and scissors all nappy hair locks up sooner or later. But it does beg the question of why people with straight hair have it doctored into dread locks. Perhaps they think they'll immediately attain the majestic profile of the conquering lion of the tribe of Judah.

Hip Hop, in it's contemporary form, was invented in Jamaica. Rolling Stone magazine and other publications acknowledges this fact. Don't believe me, ask URoy.

Voices, "toasting" over pre-recorded music. "Toast Master". Back in the day when not everyone could afford their own record player, mobile dj's went from neighborhood, to neighborhood, town to town, hugh speakers in tow, just set up and Dance start. Could hear the music for miles.

As far as the music blasting out of car speakers, I do believe Jamaican's are responsible for that one also.

The "Ebonics" thing..well..personally I don't like it..but if I offer more explantion, it may be construed as racist.

For the past 2 decades I've seen Jamaican culture wash over the world. I look at it as a compliment. But as old time ppl use to seh.."Follow fashion monkey never drink good soup" anyway..

The interacial dating thingy..if you love Jamaica..just remember the saying under our Coat of Arms.."Out of Many One People". This is Jamaica..a mixture of every race, mix up in one pot of ital stew. I do belive there are 2 Arawak Indians standing on either side of the shield....so. What is it about Jamaicans, including myself, that when we leave the shores of Jamaica, we get caught up in the racial business? I don't believe and I don't remember race being an issue in Jamaica when I was growing up there. Every now and then it was "yuh coolie ra../you chiney r..," etc...and at the end of the day, children of each marry anyway.

True Lady , but I was sayin locksmen not locksman.
Go right back n one can say Henry Morgan style is locks too (in a form ).
But before the influx of Indian labourers in early 1900s, locks were not a local feature nor was herb, nor was chantin praises when lightin kutchie.
All these concepts were adapted in a most positive way from the Sadhu mystics that arrived with the labourers.

All this chatty reminded me as a little youth in Bog Walk in the early sixties style man a wear up the Tony C hairstyle n the rastas round that way were coolie guys. Babu Rasta they were called.
