Hell, most of Jamaican culture stems from foreign influences. Just like American culture.

to me,if u have American parents and u were born in america,then u are truly american and can't claim to be of another country,BUT take for instance if an American child was born of Jamaican parents,i feel that he/she can consider his/herself Jamaican or American and it can depend on who they choose or feel they identify with more-which culture they embrace more.Then again,they could call themselves Jamerican. ...as a Black American who has taken the time to research the background surrounding this whole issue before committing myself to wearing my hair this way(7 years now), I take GREAT offense to your statement....

Please answer me this (hypothetically speaking since I'm married) because I am a white american woman I could not date, let alone marry, a Jamaican man just because of where I was born and to whom I was born to (something I had no choice of). I think that if you love each other what differance does it make whether you are American, Jamaican, Alien, white, black, purple or green, it should be up to the individuals. Just my oppinion....

I believe that the question is being put wrongly,i for one am not bothered by foreigners wearing dreadlocks. What bothers me is white people being insensitive and wearing dreadlocks. How can something was born out of colonial white racist oppression be shared with the oppresser? (i am aware of the influence of the East Indians in the Caribbean..no disrespect)Thats my problem,i don't mind any people of colour wearing dreadlocks we were and are being oppressed by the same enemy.
