It's not prejudice, it's out and out racism. It's very immature and stupid. Instead of fighting each other all the time, why not try to create some peace in the island. I just can't understand why people want trouble in this world...

Read They Came Before Columbus by Ivan Van Sertima where he pointed out that Columbus' ship journal showed that Africans were in the Americas before Columbus. Did you know that the Africans traded with the Asians before colonialism? If I told you that the African use to ship elephants to Asia, would you be surprised? Why don't you give us information on how race prejudice in India emerge after the light skinned people conquer India 5,000 years ago and that the original caste system was not based on race. You are willing to discuss some Indians' British heritage but what about the Indians' African heritage? Isn't dougla a racist term similar to coolie? I hope your realized that I am not trying to put down the East Asian contributions to the caribbean because many Caribbean persons are grateful that the East Indians introduced g*ng* to the island. Now you know why the East Indians own so many businesses. You also said you study the behaviors of East Indian in Florida and you do not notice any tension but the east Indian in new york still will not stop to pick up many blacks up in their taxis. My point is that you can not use your observation to draw broad generalization that would be valid in the Caribbean. Still, I do agree with you that many Indians are the victims of racism in the caribbean but you show that many East Indians make sense only within the context of a racist paradigm. One of my favorite song is equal rights by Peter Tosh you should listen to the words.

For instance in the Caribbean blacks are a majority of the population whereas in other countries blacks are a minority so this would mean that the racism perspective of blacks differ because of regional differences. The question that need to be anwser is how is racism not as bad in the Caribbean as other countries?

palmetto1966 racism is a modern thing based on econmic expliotation. Diversity of race might lead to prejudice but it does not necessarily lead to racism. Racism is an oppressive economic system of certain groups, not an individual. You used an individual to draw conclusion about the opressive treatment of a group. How is it possible that the Africans started everything in this world? If this was so, then why is it said that the white people rule the world? I don't really like hearing about a black man being the first person discovered on earth. How was he discovered, and how were others? How does the Adam and Eve story take place?

If elephants were shipped to India from Africa, then wotever. This issues mean NOTHING to me. I am only concerned about wot is happening TODAY because I am still very young, and I can't go back ALL the way into the past.

You seem like your pan-Africanism or something. Africans were the first on South America. That is very much so bull----! Amerindians were the first people in Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana more than 11,500 years ago, which are the countries of the Caribbean South America. Native Indians live in huge populations in South America, and they were the first. Just like how they were in America.

Even if India did have African ancestry, I still wouldn't believe it. If they were African, how did they come up with these religions and beliefs?

Some idiot told me that Indians are descendants of Australoid Aboriginies. I don't understand that. Just like how I don't understand the African part. Dravidians are MUCH different from Africans. Just like how in neighbouring countries of India like Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, multiple ethnic groups exist. They don't have the same ancestry...

Me, I am very pro-East Indian. My views will be very biased. But before anything, I am human. I've been educating myself, and East Indians have been through a lot. Now I'm being told that I am wrong just because I am speaking my voice through my eyes. I don't mind correction, but I'm being told that I'm wrong ALL the time, and it's a kick in the face.

Yes dammit, Africans in the Caribbean and Americans harrass East Indians and South Asians, this is wot I've seen. Blacks I know consider themselves the general population of America, so they treat us like we are lower than them. Even black kids I know think they're better than whites.

Hatred and superior-ness runs on every side of every race. People here are mostly black, and they are trying to tell me that opposite of wot I've experienced. I've had TOO many bad experiences with blacks, and all the information in the newspapers and websites are telling me that blacks want to run the Caribbean, that they are trying to get rid of East Indian people, and they are killing East Indians. Is it wrong for me when I haven't seen ONE newspaper article incident of a group of East Indians killing blacks? No! So don't yell at me when I am STILL trying to learn. I am not black, so I don't know how you all feel. I am East Indian, and I'm only hearing negative things mostly from the black side, who's to blame? Me, who's trying to learn, or the media?

And the taxi-cab drivers are from India, not the Caribbean. I doubt that you'd see Indo-Guyanese cab drivers...

I did not. I was merely illustrating the point that, within all groups, there will be those that are prejudiced and those that are not.

My response does not divert attention from the issue of racism, but raises the point that if some among us are willing to live harmoniously with others, in spite of cultural and racial differences, couldn't there then, be some hope that prejudice may be overcome?

JAIndian...I am sorry Africans were the first in Guyana and Trinidad...I am not going to go in detail because you can find it in history books yourself, but Africans were brought to Guyana as slaves by the British and then when the British felt that the Africans were lazy, etc, etc, it was then that they brought the people of India over as indentured servants, and eventually turning the Africans and Indians against each other...that is the reason why today there is so much animosity between the two groups...like I said I didn't go into detail, but that's my two cents....

I never said Africans started everything. It is pretty much accepted by scientific research( carbon dating) that the first people on the earth were in Sub Sahara Africa. The Adam and Eve legend is difficult to explain because everthing in the bible is not real or known.

African trading with Asian before the advent of colonialism shows an Afro-Asiatic relationship. Would it bother you some more to know that even Chinese history have Africans in it. How can you be proASIAN if you do not know your own history? Being young is not a good excuse for ignorance. How do expect to defend your position and your people by not being inform and getting offended by anyone who challenged your flawed perception of reality? Think about this since you have never looked at your face is your view of your face distorted by your reality. I am not insulting you so try to figure out if that statement is valid.

If you(and you are not the only one who have problems with it) do not believe Africans were the first in South America do some research on isla del sol and the dna match between the first people in South America and the Africans. Ask yourself how and why did people in Africa and South America build pyramids on two different continent?

I am surprised that you do know that most people in India, Nepal,and some of the other East Asian countries have the same ancestry. Go back and study the history of those countries and people before colonialization to better understand their ethnic makeup. If you know about the different enthic groups in east asia, you must also know that the violent in those countries perpetraded by east asian surpass the violent experienced by East Asian by blacks in the Caribbean. So why do you only talk about blacks attacking your people?

You make an interesting observation about religions and belief origins. I once posed that question to a professor about the link between judiasm and african religions and he told me that some people share common beliefs. He told me that some people who never learned to read have legend about the great flood. In other word, because of our common ancestry we share certain things in common including religious beliefs. Why do you belive different religions view water as scared?

You might be surprised by this but I admire your determination in trying to defend your people and I will admit that I had to change some of my views on east Asians. Why are you so defensive if your views are challenged? When your views are challenged if force you to question the validity of your belief and it also increase your knowledge? Why don't you do some research and challenge me rather than being offended by my assertions? Did you ask yourself how I knew that dougla and coolie are racist terms. My cousin's wife told me and guess her ancestry. What do you think out of many one people means? Ask yourself why don't you ever hear about Asian attacking blacks and do this prove that east Asian do not attack blacks?

How you conciously and unconsciously view blacks in the US and the caribbean is disturbing because you see blacks as dangerous and ready to attack your people. Is not strange that Blacks in many different countries are views as violent? It is in this context that I understand your racially motivated posting.

Your views and experices challenges my understanding of racism in the caribbean and the US BECAUSE blacks in both countries are being viewed as violent and a threat to society.

tonic, the caste system has a positive side, it reduces mutation and inbreeding. We ourselves about 30years ago had similar practices like tracing the family of a fiancé to make sure that they were not related before they could marry.
