You know Sukuna...it's interesting that I can look back on many things that my mum would say about duppy and superstitions in general that when I became Muslim were very similar! For example she used to tell me not to water the grass during/after sunset because it would drive duppy into the house....and in Islam during sunset time you are supposed to close your windows and doors so that jinns (something like duppies) don't enter your home. And if I may recommend a really good book by Slyvian Dioff " Servants of Allah"; it's about the diaspora of African slaves and how many of them were muslim....there was a large number of muslim slaves that were taken to Jamaica....so I'm sure that a least a few of our 'superstitions' came from them (and many other groups of course)
