The Portugese brought Christiantiy to Western Africa when they began trading there.

Actually, it goes back further than that Kumba1. An African man, Simon of Cyrene, helped carry Christ's cross, Simeon called Niger was an African and the story of the Ethiopian eunuch is mentioned in the scriptures.

sorry mountaingal, but these Jihad's were carried out from the 9th century on and the majority of Africans living below the Sahara were forced to take on the Islamic religion. There were numerous holy wars in Africa to convert the people. The last tribe to submit were the Mandinkas in the 14/15th century. However, most incorporated their traditional practices into their Islamic teachings. Possibly one reason why Islam (like Christianity) has differing practices and beliefs dependant on where you reside. [/qb]

Would you mind providing some evidence for these extraordinary claims. I do not believe that a majority of sub-Saharan Africans was ever Muslim.
