bink me respect women's ability to do some job but dem lower de standards to allow some women to qualify to do some job. dat wey dem do some women can past de test for de military. what bother me is dat me noh feel dat a black woman with a young child should not have been in dat position to get captured. call me sexist but someting wrong wid dat. de women in my family taught me dat me must defend de black women. Churchgirl - I think Blug is trying to make the statement that black oomen, in general, do not take part in the feminist movement AND that many white feminists are lesbians.

IN MY OPINION, these statements are trite and have no significance. It is like someone saying that the sun is in the sky and trying to have commentary on the subject.

Yes troo the feminist movement is predominantely white. Yes troo many of them lesbians. However, all women want to have equal opportunity. I may not have time to go and march on Washington and I certainly do not have money to even send to NOW or any other feminist organization

BUT
I am really happy bout them fighting for my rights and happy to enjoy many of the freedoms i enjoy cuz of the suffrage and feminist movements (BTW no black women were involved in the suffrage movement either and probably a much more interesting thread as to why).

Black people are still waging the war of equal rights for Black people in our country. Many do not have the energy, interest or time to engage in other battles. But certainly MOST Black oomen would support equal rights for women.

and on a final note Blug you seem to have black/white issues and I just want to say to you that yes - I am a white girl thru and thru, however

My husband is a black Jamaican, my grandson is a Black young man of 12 yrs and my best fren for 22 years was Jamaican American born in Runaway Bay (she died in 8/00-anuerism at 47). As a white woman I have not experienced the prejudice and racism that a another race experiences BUT when I see the ones I love treated unfairly or badly because of their race, I tell you that it breaks my heart over and over again.

Is there a cure for hate? Is there a cure for racism and prejudice? I think not.

But there IS a legal right for fair and equal treatment for all races with regards to race, gender, religion, sexual preference, disabilities, etc. and that is what these feminists are talking bout. They are saying you may hate me cuz I am a lesbian but YOU cannot discriminate against me in the workplace or there will be repurcusions.

Did you ever consider that fighting this kind of fight requires an enormous amount of leisure time and the financial wherewithal to fight the legal system? How many poor black women can afford to give 20 hours a week to volunteer at nonprofit organizations fighting for civil liberties? How many can afford to get arrested and spend a weekend in gaol to publicize their cause? How many can afford to give money on a regular basis for these causes?

Now, how many poor, black women have benefitted by the right to vote, the right to work in the military, police and fire departments, the right to own property, the right to have credit in their own name, the rights to easier divorce and child support payments, the right to better jobs that were once for men only? It would seem to me that black women have been very benefitted by the efforts put forth by the feminist movement.

Need I mention that before the early 1900's, women were NOT citizens in the United States. They had no rights of identity. A woman was the PROPERTY of her husband, father, brother, or some other responsible male. Women were not allowed to practice law, or attend most colleges in the U.S.

Perhaps you should give back all the rights that feminists have won and live the way black women lived in the 1800's. This way you wouldn't have to thank a bunch of white feminists for the civil liberties you enjoy today! But if you are going to benefit from the efforts of these people, the least you can do is show some gratitude and appreciation for the hard work they have put forth.
