Perhaps I am idealistic...maybe even somewhat naive. However, nothing good can come of behaving in a certain manner because it is expected based on a simplistic concept of homogeneous, monolithic blocks of individuals that we classify as belonging to a certain "race." There is no biological reality to the concept of "race" so one is forced ask why we create an artificial reality propped up by nothing more than stereotypes and generalizations?

Try going into a bank and asking for a loan! You will quickly see it"s more about the color of your skin! There is no doubt you were raised to have the attitude to deal with the day to day life as being black! If you weren"t raised to have this attitude, just going about your dailey activities,will come into play one way or another! If you live on another universe then maybe you won"t come this issue,but as long as you are on earth you will deal!

It takes a combination of both skin color and attitude to be black. Some people with black skins are not black but white people can never be black even though they might have the attitude because black people have a share culture.

LadyZ being black is a tool that was used to fight against slavery. Would you consider that good or bad.

Borica Papi are you afraid of being black? If you had a choice of color, which one would it be my brother? Yes, it is true that the black and white races were created and some negative traits, sterotypes and beliefs were characterized racial line to make blacks' condition and social status appear logical. On the other hand, the concept of black united the Africans to oppose their subordinated position. Your belief in color-blindness make no sense because blacks were and are still being treated differently(even by some biologists). Are you going to deny that biology is also social construct too? My disagreement with you stems from your unwillingness to recognized the differnce between a social and biological interpretation of society. An interesting point that you overlooked is that science does not dictate which interpretatations of race will be accepted because of where the funding come from. The difference between a race concious approach and your biological approach lie within both principles and it is not guide by any determinate organizing principle. So, you have no basis from which to argue your preferencethat skin colah doan mean henyting henyways.

This is a intresting subject matter, I was discussing this very issues with some bredren this past week.

If I walk into a bank asking for a loan and state that I am a native from the west indies, I will be more than likely to get it. However if I state that I am a black american, they will be sketchy.

I am unsure if one can actually call someone a classed color based on the pigamtaion(sp?), although if one pushes forward with the stereotypical attitude of being a justified persona then they are just that. At the end of the day it all boils down to if you decide to label yourself such names, innit?

I know a black young man whose skin is whiter than mine with blue eyes but he is proud to be a black man.

Is it bout color? Is it bout culture? what bout a white baby adopted by black parents and raised in a black culture? What about mixed children?

it is an interesting topic.

wish we were all one color - - but as seen in many situations (i.e. Liberia) it would not matter.

I was watching a documentary on "Racism in the US" and during an interview with a extemely racist man from Texas, these are the exact words that came from the man's mouth. I remember them exactly, because I was shocked that in this day and age - there are people out there as stupid as this man. He said, "I do not hate them because they are black... I hate them because they are N-words. There are white people I hate too, and I hate them because they are N-Words. You do not have to be black to be a N-Word."

I disagree, I am a proud, 100%, no additives or perservative, black woman because my skin is black - but that does not stop other black people from calling me an Oreo, go figure.
