Well I guess we have the same wish. However, we will get harsh when the same stupid rhetoric keeps being presented on the board as truth by those who don't know **** from peanut butter.

Now I don't know you. Until this thread, I can't recall reading any of your contributions. So I can't say whether you're guilty of passing along misinformation or not.

But there are some who don't know and like to pretend that they do. Then there are the newcommers, who see this kind of thing being posted and walk away thinking "Ah so it go"...

Chaz: It's not about censorship. It's about being responsible with your words. If a newbie comes on the site and say that Jamaica is the land of wood and weed - then, although it will raise our hackles, we sigh, roll our eyes and then educate them with the truth.

But if you've been here for a while, a good while, you should know differently. So why persist with the false information? Why? Should people who've been here for years not know better? Should we give them a break because they're non-Jamaicans?

A member of your household will know what is acceptable in your house and what isn't. As opposed to a visitor. The visitor gets educated. They will be shown what will work in your house and what won't. If they persist in trying to undermine the morals of your home by spreading wrong information, then they don't get invited back. They don't become members of your household.

I am sorry. This IS about morality and the beautiful Jamaica that we JAMAICANS call home. Jamaican is home to millions of people not just a playground where bored and horny tourists can get it on. If you really want to help there are MANY other FAR more uplifting ways of doing it as I have already identified. (That's why di just don't buy that argument.) This is one of the reason I detest the model of tourism we have in Jamaica. We should not be compromising our values and culture in exchange for the dollah!!

Geo, you know little about me so PLEASE, don't make assumptions. I did not get the HELL out of Jamaica. I was a toddler at the time and had NO say in the matter. So please, let's focus on the issues and not make this personal.

With all due respects Geo, I am Jamaican and I have deep roots and connections to Jamaica that go back MUCH further than how long you have been travelling there to "get your groove back" (yes I have read some of your threads but I have never participated in them and based on what I read I now AVOID them). I am entitled to express my views about a country where I was born, where I have lived and worked, where I hold citizenship, AND where my ancestors toiled as slaves. We were a God fearing people with certain standards and values including BIBLICAL values. We were poor, hard working people but we had dignity and self-respect. There was NO shame in that. I think that some of what is going on in the tourist areas is a disgrace and I am as entitled to express that view as you are to post about..the topics about which you post. I have worked as a social worker in Jamaica, likely before you ever set foot on Jamaican soil So please don't be so condescending as to even attempt to educate me about poverty or illiteracy in Jamaica.

Geocox, we are coming from different places, with different perspectives and different agendas.

I have NO desire to get into an argument with you or anyone else particularly so close to Marcia's passing. So, with all due respects, Geocox, let us just agree to disagree on this topic.

MarieK...I have never seen this post before, but from reading the excerpt...I can see why people are so unset. I am not even going to dignify those comments with a reponse because it's pointless. The topic shows more about the individual than it does about Jamaicans. WE (Jamaicans) all know that we don't have to pay for our diplomas and that we can read, write and aren't illiterate. So way bother waste your energy on someone hell bent on antagonizing you. You are adding fuel to the fire.

I also think if you feel that someone has disrespect you, your country or culture you have a right to speak out if you feel to...

For me I know the truth. I go my education in Jamaica. I didn't pay for my diploma. I have my birth certificate and so does my mother, brothers, sisters and all my family that live in Jamaica...WE (Jamaicans) know the TRUTH. Why bother answering to nonsense. Just keep educating the people you can and forget the ones you can't...Because there are some people who can't be educated in part because they have issues with themselves...You can't resolve someone's issues. He/she has to resolve his/her issues for him/herself.

It's unfortunate how stupid and ignorant one can be just by opening his/her mouth.

sisternancy,I didnt read about your experience with this one man,but its only fair to say that if you chose to post about that one particular experience,then thats the only experience that you will be judged by.
obviously there are more to you than the sum total of a year`s relationship with one guy,I am sure there was never any intention by others to cancel out all your previous experiencces.

in my humble opinion,there are very,very different angles to the relationship between tourists and locals,not just in jamaica,but in all the places where similar relationships happens.
there are a great level of exploitation not just from the renta`s,but also from the tourists,its not simply a one way thing,both parties are manipulating each other,one for materials,the other for sex.

if the truth were to be told,there *are* some women that find it hard to formulate relationship in their own country due to the perception in their own countries that "fat" is unattractive.
in jamaica "fat" is sexy,so the "fat" ladies all head for jamaica to get laid,its as simple as that.
when some go back to their countries and hold up these "relationships" as the real mc-coy, then others will be cynical.
the exploitation is not simply one way,its happening both ways,and it is not to be celebrated.
there are invariable genuine relationships between tourists and locals,but its a fine line between a genuine relationship,and one that was formulated between a buyer,and a seller.
its too ambigious to even comment on until both parrties has got married,have children,and the relationship surviving after at least a five year period.
