Talking about smells. One of the best smells in Jamaica is the one when coffee is being parched, and then ground. Another comes from sprats being fried, and yet another comming from very ripe mangoes such as bombay, east indian, number and even black mango. You can tell I was a real mango man. ...Last but not least the smell of Jamaican sea and its breezes.

I remember standing by the gate on Friday nights (our house was on the main road), and in the darkness, the sudden smell of scented soap - sure sign of someone who had just freshened up and was on their way to Santa Cruz to go sport. Right now there are some cheap soaps I buy at the supermarket for pure nostalgia, because they remind me of that clean night smell.
