I've been thinking on this for sometime now and just want to share this point.

Here we see God questioning Cain.

Genesis 4 : 9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? 10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. 11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

I may be off on a tanget but bear with me. I'm looking at this in that Cain knew that God sought a blood sacrifice. Now, he could've sold his first fruits and purchased a blood offering.

Scriptural reference: Leviticus 25:15 - According to the number of years after the jubile thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee:

Ezra 7:17 - That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

Looking at the scriptures back in Genesis it does not say what the quarrel was between Cain and Abel, however we see them after the acceptance of Abel's offering by God in an argument and one ending up dead. I'm going out on a limb to say that Cain wanted Abel to give him of his flock and not pay for it. He got angry and slew his brother. Abel now became the blood sacrifice that was offered up before the Lord (though not intentionally) God heard his blood cry out from the grounds and cursed Cain.

This leads me to back to the story told in Acts chapter 5 ( But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.)

God knows what we have to offer, what we can offer and what we should offer. If we are going to give Him an offering we should make sure it is according to His dictates and with the right motivation.

why would God want a sacrifice of what belongs to him in the first place? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] what does that do for him? it don't make no sense.
