Three lessons here

A. When someone comes to this site and ask for help with homework please help and not insult them. That has happen in the past from some of the same people here that is giving the thumbs of to this post.

B. The shortsightedness of the GOJ transportation policy, the stupidity of the more man have cyar revolution and the HWay 2000 boondoggle.

C. We talk about how proud of our history we are and how we miss the good times yet we would not lift a finger to protest the loss of this history.
Maybe because for the most part it was a relic of our Colonial Past.

The Port Antonio Railway Station, constructed in 1896, is typical of the style of architecture associated with Railway Stations in Jamaica.  Built along the Jamaican Georgian lines of architecture, the Port Antonio Railway Station is considered as the finest example of highly decorative finishes.

The Station was of significant importance to Jamaica’s transportation system as it was the terminus of the line that started at Bog Walk in St. Catherine.

When the banana trade was at its height and Port Antonio was a flourishing port, this was the scene of much activity.

That is the same style used at "Four Paths"...
you could move one to the other site and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Grange lane and Gregory patk were the clisest the trains went to Portmore. there were no lines into Poetmore the closest it went was caymanas crossing called gregory park.

The government had little choice because the rail way was a single track amd single track was like a 1lane highway.
it is 1/10th the effeciency of a dual track.

The problem was that the cost to dualize the tracks were prohibitive (then).

It can be done at much llower cost today,but the government is not aware. they really do not need the Indians,because they are nit planning to dualoze the tracks amd as a result it will fail after 5 to 7 years or so.

...but who cares???

That share certificate has a face valueod of 1 million pounds.
It was for 40,000 shares at 25 pounds per share with a security deposit of 1 pound 7 shillings and 6 pence per share.

Compare the period when the railway was closed and tasay. money was nuch more difficult to come by. taking intoi consideration that Jamaica could not borrow on the international matket,nor was provate capital intrested in investing in Highways,or railways for that matter. Otyy was I would conclude moreso then than now.
Remember being ptohibitive si not always relate to value,but it is more about availabillity of funds.

Don't write foolishness it occurs to me that you are either a paid or unpaid propagandist for the GOJ, either way you are not making any sense and you are doing a bad job of it.

Like you and others said in another post please provide the stats!
In 1992 when the Railway finally closed wasn't the Government still borrowing on the International Market?
Didn't the GOJ borrow on the market finally exiting in 2002 returning this month with 100 million loan from Canada?
What was the rate of interests then and compared to now?
Didn’t the Government get all kinds of loans from Kuwait and from the local Benefit Schemes to finance the HyWay2000 boondoggle?
What about all the millions lost through various scandals?
Wasn't the Single Line JRC transporting people and freight back and forth for decades?

What discovery will make a Rail Service cheaper to finance today?
Not the no-compete clause in the HWay2000 agreement.
Not the 11% interests rates on International Loans.
Not the 15-35% domestic interests rates.
What the new cell phone and cyar revolution?

Just because you do not understand the differentfinancial terms. It son't mean that others are being dishoinest.
I satetef thatupto the period when the Railway closed,jamaic could not borriow on the international market. Jamaic's borrowing was limited to the IMF,the World Bank,and bylatersl creitd lines issued by governments.
The government could not issue bonds,because until very recently private lenders (other that Matk Rich under questionable circumstances)would lend to Jamaica. tha is what the international matket refer to. the IMF is not includedbecause it is a lender of last resort,and irrespective of the claims by the nay sayers [b] until recently Jamaica could only borrow from lenders of lost resort.
It was not considered qualified to float bonds on the matket.

I have no reason to be dishonest about anything or any one,because what ever happens I certainlt can live.
I am only intrested in explainthe truth about what i write,in this case jamaica's position at that period.

Incidentally goivernments have always always waste funds through dishonestyor inefficeincies.
It happens in all organizations. ot will always be with us. what we need to do is to reduce it to managable proportions,and don't behave like the bottom of the country wi;; fall out on the basis if it.
We need to try an move the country forward,instead of masting effort on what has already been lost.

Where is it?
Just for information I have only started to hear Motty after 13 years. In the interim the Government machinations vis-a-vis the political economy have not changed. I have been on so-called Jamaican Bulletin Boards and I have been able to figure it out without Motty's help.

Thanks to his help I have been able to better understand how corrupt our Government truly is.
He has not altered, only expanded my view of the current govenment.

Yes after observing you on this Board, I can say with certainty that you a very dishonest person.
Either that or you truly do not understand a hoot about what you claim to know.

Going further what economic terms did you use that I fail to grasp?

How big is St Kitts, just a tiny speck compared to Jamaica.

Tuff Gong You are so quick to lambast the Jamaican authorities that youb don't even stop to get the understanding of what youyy are lambasting about.
the St kitts scenic railway is a narrow gage rail. Like the one that Frome operated when tate nd Lyle operated it. A narrow gage railway actuall uses ingines with specifications and in some cases adopted D8 Caterpiller earth movers.
they are creap to but and uneconomical to oprate unless it is as an attraction.

All you have to do is to observe the spacing of the seating and you would see it is the same with of a jitney.

It is not the same as the stanbdard gage railway that Jamaica has. An engine for the type of service Jamaica operated runs into millions.

In addition the terrain that the St Kitts rail covers, being along the coastis slightly graded, and with the length of the tracks is like running a tail line in Clarendon.
the Jamaican rail lines atart and ends ar sea level and rises to almost 2000 feet.
It is like compating chalk to cheese.

In other words St Kitts have trains but it is more like a toy than a real train.

If you have to lambast the country at least base it on facts.
