Nunya, personal color charts are done to help people dress and apply makeup that complements their natural skin tones (and undertones) and hair color. You know how some colors just look "right" on you and you always feel good, but another just never looks good, no matter how attarctive an outfit or shade. Even more frustrating is when you give it away, and it looks awesome on someone else. These theories apply to people of all races and skin colors, and to men, as well. They really do work. Color theory in decorating is based on psychological reactions to specific colors. The same theories have been used in marketing forever. That is a complex topic as well.

The concept is similar, but since you are not wearing your wall and fabric colors, it is usually based more on how you want a room to "feel". Having said that, there are certain things that are similar to makeup and garment color.....for example, did you ever hear that you should use pink lightbulbs on a dimmer in an area you plan to use for a cocktail party or romantic purposes? That sort of light and limited spectrum generally flatters most everyone's skin tone. Also, if you really look great in peach, paint your bedroom that color and layer it on in tones and textures on your bedding (make sure it is all in the family - i.e., all with brown in it like terracotta, or all with pink in it, like coral). See what I mean? Your own bath is a great place to experiment.

I think there are alot of Virgos in IT. If you poll the board, most of the Virgo will tell you they are meticulous, organized and anal.....

My MIL buys right off of it, my husband uses it as a guideline. Other than that, anyone else is on their own - I like surprises. Most people close to me tell me I am very easy to buy for. This Holiday, I had a few books, and things like that on my list. Anything else I really want either has to wait for more $$$ (cabinetry for my office) or I have to pick it out (i.e., comfortable task chair).

We knew we were going to get married, and had started to look at rings, halls, etc. He was saving the "big" production for when we selected a ring.....it never happened, because we sort of eloped and got married on the beach in Boca Raton.

Stupid in what way? You mean silly? He signed a new lease for a condo a couple of days after we met (he lived in another state) moved his stuff, and then spent about two nights there. He traveled constantly, and started flying in and out of Boston instead of Indiana..... we finally subleased it and moved him out a few months later. As for anything else, I will have to consult with a friend of ours. Maybe she has an example right off the top of her head.
During my single days, the colour palette of my apartment suited me to a t! Although I have never had a chart done, I do know what looks good on me, what I like and what makes me happy. And so I decorated my apartment accordingly.
Now, the same colour scheme does not work with my husband. For eg, I love earth tones. My sofa, the walls, rugs, and other furniture, was just varying shades of earth tones and autumn colours. However, when I tried to decorate our new place in that manner, I found that it clashed with David's skin colour!
Somehow, the vibe was not right with him in the room! His favourite colours are grey and red. I can't mesh his colours with mine.

Try a grayish taupe, and use persimmon red as an accent color. Go get some color chips at a full service paint store, and bring some home. Some places even have larger chips....buy a the smallest can possible and try it in at least a 1x 1 space......when I find one of my paint decks under all of this mess, I will give some specific recommendations. You can use the paint color chips to go look for fabrics and furnishings.
(BTW, this is a very common problem and can usually be solved if you recognize what the issues are - you've already done that and that's half of the battle!)

Sorry I haven't been back sooner. I've had loads of company since Christmas. Well, Nunya, we'll have to work on a desgin solution for you. Got any pictures? How about furniture?
My house is full of colors, all of the same intensity or saturation.....Dining Room is red, Family Room is bluish green, Kitchen is yellow, Foyer to upstairs hall is sand, master bath granite, master bedroom is TAUPE, daughter's room purple, hubby's office is olive green....you get the idea. It flows very well though.
Design disaster? One unpleasant one was the bedroom in my first apartment, back in the day. For some reason I thought that a dusty rose and hunter green scheme would be great.....yucch.
Favorite piece of furniture that I currently own? Hhhhmmm, that's a tough one. I am rather in the middle of the "cobbler's son" syndrome. I would likely replace most of what we have, but I am very fond of my husband's office suite. It is a sort of polished Mission, if that makes sense to you. What I need is some money, time and space. We are trying to get to the point of an addition, which will likely change everything. My only "undone" room at the moment is my own office/studio. It is pathetically underfurnished and undecorated.
