Yuh kno it hard fi mi fi feel sympathy fi smaddy, when prior to 9/11 dem was practicing di same discrimination against Black people. Right here in the Detroit area, which has the largest Middle-Eastern community outside the middle-east itself, many of them use to, smack around little black kids, and old ladies, lock people in their liquor/party stores from behind bullet proof glass, call Black People all kind of derogatory names and sell them rotten meat. The list is very long and prior to 9/11 created a lot of tension in Detroit and surrounding areas. You may be asking, why do people subject themselves to this kind of abuse? Well, in a lot of cases they are in low income areas, and the elderly and a lot of residents don't have any way to shop outside of their neighborhoods, and most of those existing stores are owned by people living outside their communities. The public transportation system is not as good as it is in say, NYC, Chicago, Toronto, etc. They would need a car or have to depend on other people or take a taxi (which a lot of them can't afford).
But di kicker is dem also try dem same crap with well to do Black people, who of course Highlight the incidents whenever it happens. One of their leaders, who was a complete jackass, had the nerve to come on public talk radio and espoused some of his stereotypical views about Black People.

Sue, glad yuh raised di point. As a matter of fact after the incident happened, the first profiles that they released of whom they suspected did it, was of Arabic or Pakistani origins. Dem could not imagine dat an home grown All-American Caucasian would have been responsible.

I was on a flight to NY..and there was 3 of dem on the flight....when de seatbelt ting go off .. dem get up..
one from up front ..one in di middle...dem meet an chat..
but dem eye deh all ova de inside of the plane structure...
mi sidung deh a watch dem..
one walk to de back..mi tun roun..him a talk to anodda one..
de two whe mi si fuss guh back to dem seat..
de odda one come from de back come siddung right in front of mi by de door...
de arline attendant ask him fi move...
him ah gwaan like him nuh hear...
shi ask him again..said response...
now mi ah think to miself...bwoy..mi gwaan haffi bruk a bwoy neck een yah today...
anyway mi tek brave an tap him pon him shoulda...sir..yuh haffe move to anodder seat..
him get up an walk back roun back..
shortly after de seatbelt light come back on ..and wi land a La Guardia.

Dat was in April...Sept 11th came ...pictures in the newspapers...mi say mek mi look pon dem picture ... ah nearly faint ...de 3 a dem picture a look back pon mi from di front page.
Mi recognize one first ... den mi say maybe de res ah dem in a dis to....sure enough..they were all dere in the 19 pictures.

Profiling is bogus. One of my uncles is always stopped at the Canada/US border for looking like an Arab. Meanwhile his wife and children go through w/o a hitch.

Not many Jamaicans don't have family members who could be profiled as "Arab".

Look in tonic's topic about Sudan for pictures of Arabs and you'll see what I mean.

Geneva, thanks for that link. A lot was revealed there. It is good to know that airmarshals are on 'some' flights, although I would prefer that they are on all flights.
