hurricane-relief trip - wish us luck!

Tomorrow my wife and I are travelling from Boston to Jamaica to try to help family & friends affected by Ivan. I am American, she is Jamaican (she recently moved to the U.S. to marry me) (lucky me [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] ).

We are bringing 4 50-lb boxes of supplies of various kinds (the max the airline said they will allow). We plan to rent a good vehicle, travel to Cauldwell (Hanover) to look for dear friends we have not heard from, and then proceed to Kingston where my wife's family lives. They had the roof blown off their house.

Advice is welcome (what to expect, what to bring, what routes to travel). Or just wish us luck.

We'll post a trip report and pics when we return.

I'm pretty sure that Maureen can be a good guide for you - but I just want to tell you guys to be careful ok?

an know that you *might not* have light and water - depends on which paat of the island yu go.

oonu very brave an full a heart!!! God bless. The airline a guh waive duty and extra fees for excess baggage?

memba to carry some med supplies-- like neosporin an insect spray and ahm tings in case u belly get sick (I have no idea wat help running belly, but u might need supm like that)

Safe journey. If things are up and running in Mobay and you can find any... I recommend carrying drinking water. Desperately needed!!

Water should be subsiding in most places now, but for sure, based on some the picts I seeing, roadways - especially on the coast - are almost totally demolished. Not so sure about the North Coast just yet, but for sure East of Harbour View is a awful mess. Careful on the roads.
