exactly. your "responding" may be very different from someone else's. it depends on the agenda and a lot of people these days are not looking to speak it as a hobby but to respond however they see fit, colouring it with their personal morals(or lack thereof) and points of view.
remember that patois is not just a different language but from a different CULTURE as well.

I think thats the biggest bunch of crap i ever heard... all people who come to jamaica.. want to be jamaican.. speak patwa , jump on banana boats.. and are phony.....
sure there are some but plenty are not of that ilk at all...
as for hate lyrics.. they dont go well with me no matter whos babbling them.. jamaican or not...
hate to give you a wake up call.. but there's plenty of things in jamaica that are not desirable.. and none of us want to call our own..... take a look and see all the foreigners that left...
I am one who sees both sides of the coin and i embrace jamaica with all her beauty and flaws... I will never be one of her children.. and i dont intend to ever try to pass myself off as one...

good for you, im sure you wouldn't hesitate to tell one of us to jump on the banana boat either. I know exactly what im talking about! Between dec and feb. I know about 50 people and their families that went down there this year alone and came back they started out with "oh jamaican is so beautiful, an di had fun and learned to speak jamaican, Yeah mon" and in that same conversation they bust out with how its a 3rd wold country and how when they left the resort people lived in shacks and the kids were dirty and how we live. One man even said that there was a man dressed like a woman with a donkey and took pictures of people for money, then he saw the man take off the dress and said what a looser he pretended to be a woman to make money why dont he get a job. people talk bout how ganja is smoked all bout the place, my question to that person was did you smoke any? they said no then i asked did you sniff some coke they was like it was real good
i mean a total diss, then the same people wanna talk bout how they want to cook like we and rearrear. So i took one woman up on her offer and was teaching her how to make rice and peas you know what she said "my husband wont eat this, this is for jamaican people" Phony!!!!
