You know some of the daily vexations are really telling. I spoke about people pushing in line in front of you or clerks serving the White person first even though the Black person was waiting longer. A friend of mine experienced a DOOZIE recently.

He went to, belive it or not, a pizzeria. There was a White woman sitting and waiting on her order and a White man doing the same. He said the white woman was the trailer trash/welfare recipient type....(don't jump on me, I am just repeating what I was told.)

Anyway, my friend asked for the hot and ready special and was told there were none. (The clerk was new.) He then pointed out that there was one in the oven and he asked how fresh it was. She showed it to him and it wasn't fresh. He then asked if some were being prepared and how soon some more would be ready.

At that point the White women chimed up. "Wait your turn. Those are mine I have been waiting longer than you and so has he pointing to the White man."

My friend was not sure WHAT was going on so he said excuse me I wasn't talking to you I was asking a question. The woman again told him that he should wait his turn. At this point my friend said "Hey if you want the pizza in the warm up oven be my guest". She said "No". He then asked the White man the same and he said he was waiting for the others. At that point my friend said "So what's the problem here. We are all waiting, the clerk knows in what order we came so why are you butting in and making remarks about something that has nothing to do with you?" At that poin the White woman said " I don't need this crap" and stomred out.

Exactly. Reminds me of a place I worked where the White males in professional roles used to speak VERY harshly to white secretaries and they took it. Not one complaint. All it took for a Black person to get a complaint was to be a bit rushed and under time pressure and give instructions rapidly to the secretaries while rushing out. THAT would trigger a complaint. Some of these same women will go down to Jamaica and pick up a Jamaican guy on the beach for a fling and then return to the office and treat Black female professionals like dirt.

webster's is a bit vague .. what i seek is an idea about the beliefs of board members HERE in regards to what "race" is. here's an excerpt of a statement issued by the American Anthropological Association a few years back:

...scholars in many fields argue that "race" as it is understood in the United States of America was a social mechanism invented during the 18th century to refer to those populations brought together in colonial America: the English and other European settlers, the conquered Indian peoples, and those peoples of Africa brought in to provide slave labor.

Thus "race" was a mode of classification linked specifically to peoples in the colonial situation. It subsumed a growing ideology of inequality devised to rationalize European attitudes and treatment of the conquered and enslaved peoples. Proponents of slavery in particular during the 19th century used "race" to justify the retention of slavery. The ideology magnified the differences among Europeans, Africans, and Indians, established a rigid hierarchy of socially exclusive categories underscored and bolstered unequal rank and status differences, and provided the rationalization that the inequality was natural or God-given. Ultimately "race" as an ideology about human differences was subsequently spread to other areas of the world. In the latter part of the 19th century it was employed by Europeans to rank one another and to justify social, economic, and political inequalities among their peoples. During World War II, the Nazis under Adolf Hitler enjoined the expanded ideology of "race" and "racial" differences and took them to a logical end: the extermination of 11 million people of "inferior races" (e.g., Jews, Gypsies, Africans, homosexuals, and so forth) and other unspeakable brutalities of the Holocaust.

"Race" thus evolved as a worldview, a body of prejudgments that distorts our ideas about human differences and group behavior. Racial beliefs constitute myths about the diversity in the human species and about the abilities and behavior of people homogenized into "racial" categories. The myths fused behavior and physical features together in the public mind, impeding our comprehension of both biological variations and cultural behavior, implying that both are genetically determined. in our day to day experiences we find this idiotic fabrication is still alive and well. so though it might be foolish to pretend like people around us don't still think this way, does it necessarily mean that we ourselves should continue to embrace the idea? and wouldn't the world be a better place if we didn't?

people like the moron at the pizzaria who cling to fantasies about who is who gift their unfortunate offspring with that same fantasy. and SO DO WE as long as we cling to ideas about our "racial" identity.. one bestowed upon us by colonial powers of the past and present.

CULTURE, on the other hand, means much more to me.

though RACE is a very real part of my day to day life interactions with people in my community, i will continue to reject the whole blasted idea because i see it as yet another part of the "divide and rule" strategy which is so disgusting and yet so successful.

because i look rather ambigous to many people, i am often asked about my race. i just tell them: "human race"... ah di only REAL race anyway.

sorry .. one more thing. earlier someone mentioned their solution to racism would be for more black men to seed up white woman. LOL. in case i didn't make this clear... i believe as long as people perpetuate the myth the problem of racism will always be here no matter how many "mixed" babies we have. (we're all "mixed" anyway)

my proposed solution:

all the racism would end tomorrow if people stop believing in the myth of race.

today I read something about racism in france.
most of people here thing the governement has to do something about that.
but, a black man made a very good book about black people during the second world war in the nazi camps.
everybody in france like this book, it's the first book dealing with african situation during this war.
the book was about to win a very inportant prize
but someone in the jury said the informations in the book isn't true and we have to check out all the story, and they are fed up with all comunautarism movement.
where is the communautarism movment is telling to people that blackpeople suffers too during this war in nazi camps?
and all the informations in the book are rightly true, many of black people who were in those camps testified that it's true.......
