Hurricane Dennis definitely on its way to JA

The island is now bracing for the onslaught of what is now Hurricane Dennis, which is headed for the island's North East Coast.

All disaster agencies have been activated with personnel being placed in positions to respond to emergencies.

The latest bulletin from the Meteorological Service issued at 5:30pm says that the hurricane warning has been extended for the entire island as what is now Hurricane Dennis continues to bear down on the island.

At five this afternoon Hurricane Dennis was about 450 kilometres south east of Morant Point.

Dennis continues towards the west north west near 22 kilometres per hour and this motion is expected to continue over the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 130 kilometres per hour with higher gusts and further strengthening forecast.

The Met Office says computer models are showing little change in the forecast track for the hurricane but the predictions are increasing that the centre of Hurricane Dennis will make landfall along Jamaica's north eastern coast.

Outer bands of showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds will spread across the island later this evening into tonight and could produce extensive flash flooding and landslides especially over northern and eastern parishes as Dennis moves closer.

Strong northerly winds gradually increasing to near hurricane force are likely to start affecting eastern parishes later this evening into tonight.

The hurricane is then expected to move close to or along the northern coastline by tomorrow morning.

It`s been raining in Jamaica almost all of June and now in July, rain. Then a hurricane was spawned. A salmon. Not rain from the outer pangs.
By daylight we`ll have some of the droplets that Dennis sneezes on us.
