I went to the prom I had a date and I wore a black denim levi suit a purple champion tee shirt and some black shell toe adidas (how sad) my boyfriend had on the same thing we were so called "Gangstas" and the worst part my mother has that stupid picture hanging up in her living room and everyone laughs at it

I went to my High School graduation in a stretch limo, got asked by three guys strung them all along, cause I could not decide who to go with then they found out and a fight broke out amongst them, anyways went with the one that won the fight. nothing earth shattering but would not have missed it for the world

AW but were you asked? It's one thing to ask and decline because you don't WANT to go. It's a TOTALLY different matter to WANT to go and not get asked.

I didn't go to mine and I had no interest in going. I went to William Lyon MacKenzie CI. When I graduated the number of black kids increased to 8 and the majority of the other kids who lived in the Bathurst/Sheppard/Wilson Heights area (if you know the demography of that area) took pride in referring to me by the *N* word so I didn't want to be in a social setting with them.

My prom was okay. Sucked, but I've had worse experience. I got asked by a few guys in my class, who I turned down in order to go with my best friend at the time (who did not attend my school). It was Kinda dry, cause the didnt play any reggae/ dancehall. Not even likkle pop. No MJ and no R&B nor hip hop. Sometimes I felt like I wasted my parent's $1500 on my outfit. Cause I didn't enjoy it. And the food sucked! Himagine, dem a serve yawdy white chicken breast wid mushroom sauce. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] . And some whole heap a bush bush wid potato.

But me and my friend got some good laughs at the people who can't sing and went up on stage go mek a fool of demself. And yes, we got to laugh at their dancing too. That was funny.

Wonderful just wonderful. Even I didn't have it THAT bad. The only time I was called that was when I went down to Point Saint Charles one day for some reason (a VERY poor White area at the time). I thought YOU look down on me and you're at the very bottom of the barrel PULEEEZE!!! Now that one rolled off me like water off a duck's back.

No Tropi, I wasn't asked. Probably because the crowd of people I hung with were into other things. My BF at the time was a musician and our group pretty much spent our weekends following the band to various other dances. I'm thinking that I probably didn't even pay attention to when prom was. I was very anti-school back then.

Aw IM, but you had a boyfriend. You have NO idea what it's like to be rejected and overlooked at this critical stage of development. Trust me, it's NOT the same as having a boyfriend and both of you choosing not to go. The fact that you would put it in the same category shows that you, unfortunately, don't get it. In all fairness to you, how can you be expected to get it if you have never been made to feel like an outsider.

On a more pleasant topic, how is the riding going? I am getting better and more confident every week. I haven't taken any tumbles in a while.

Well Tropi, the part about never feeling like an outsider isn't entirely true either. I started thinking about those days after I posted this and there is a reason all of this came about. I was from a poor part of town, like the wrong side of the tracks so to speak. We were looked down upon and shunned by a whole lot of the schools population, and we pretty much stuck together as we were totally ignored by the rest of the students. None of us went to anything like school dances or proms, we weren't invited. The BF I had? If my daughter would have taken up with someone such as him in High School, I would have chained her up before I would have let her go out of the house! So, I know what you are saying, but for different reasons...

Actually, I ended up hating school because of this and ended up quitting in the middle of 12th grade because I couldn't take it anymore...

I haven't been on my horse at all this year, but now that Fall is here, I plan to give it a whirl. Not so sure how it's gonna go but I'm gonna give it a whirl! My horse is spoiled bad bad...

Understood, I guess one never knows the whole picture from another person's POV. Guess I shouldn't have made assumptions. Who is exercising your horse these days? Your horse is just down the road right?

Bucko is right outside my window. He isn't getting any excersise other than eating all day and an occasional runaround the pasture which is about 10 acres I have fenced. He may be moving to a friends horse farm and be used as a school horse soon, or I will borrow a horse from her to keep him company this winter. Ever since I lost cracker, his faithful companion, Bucko has been pretty lonely...
