If there is nothing there, why be offended if Cayman tries to put up barriers? If they have nothing Jamaicans want, then Jamaicans should not care if they want to require visas or not.

Thanks for the info Dr. Dudd but I still maintain that some of us have not been very welcome in The Cayman Islands because we were not very gracious to them when they had nothing and some of us are still not gracious to them even though they have come from under and now doing well for themselves.
There's no denying that we are a great people but we need to work on that flaw we have of "using" situations and people without much respect for the situations or the people.

No, no human being should ever have to grovel for anything but if it's not yours and you want some of it, then a little respect is not too much to ask of the 'beggars'.

It is my firm belief that once we learn how to negotiate with other nations, our image abroad of the arrogant, ginnal Jamaican will change.

We may have the brains, but the other territories far surpass us in the delivery of social graces...without which...we cannot oil the wheels of life. When we learn that, our "facetiness" will be seen more as an asset rather than, as at the present, a liability, and we will then take our place as movers and shakers...with pizzazz!

Jamaicans would do themselves a dis-service if they pattern some of the other island attitudes, those islands have casinos and locals cant go in, marina and yatch clubs the only "local" face is the man serving the drinks or doing the limbo for the rich ex-pats kids, knowing them place and cant look people in the eye... I will take ginal ship anyday over hat in hand bowed head bizness...mi no cater. All that glitter is not gold, money might frighten you, but it dont frighten me. And it has been open season on Jamicans, you better recognize.

ETA- I dont want to fight wi no yardy over something as trivial as Cayman, they have a right to do what they want but different people react differently to a slap in the face, some walk away rubbing the spot, while others send back a slap plus two more to boot.

Sorry Shandra but you a lose mi, how we losing out, Jamaica attracted the most foreign investment in the region in 2004 over US700 million (we nuh as poor as people want mek it), Captian Bakery owned by Horace burell a man I personally used to see at up park camp when I was a likkle kid, recently expanding his bakery to Cayman and sponoring events now back in JA, JMMB and NCB expanding into the caribbean.. yes I know we have a long way to go with the crime but I am not writing us off because it is fashionable to do so.

Is we dem run to when hurrican tear up dem baxside our telephone company men go down there and help them now years after years, and I am supposed to just roll over pon mi belly like mawga dag and nu say nothing... Anyway I naw fight wid you, yu is free to say what you want sistren, so walk good.

think about this though - Is the sacrifice of years of good relations worth the elevation of the ego?

I think a lot of you are missing some important points. There is reported 1500 Jamaican overstayers, and these persons may be given an opportunity to leave with no charges being brought. Isn't overatying a crime? A few weeks ago they published an article about gunmen targetting the Attorney General - who happens to a Jamaican. The Chief Jutsice who is also a Jamaican, and Members of Govt were under 24 hours protrction. Why? Because the alleged gang leader is Jamaican. many of the senior citizens were born and educated in Jamaica. When in rome do as the romans do - that should apply to jamaicans in cayman too. No one should be expected to accept criminals in theirsociety. So peter will pay for Paul. How many Caymanians will have the need to travel to Jamaica- so a reciprocal visa requirement will be utterly useless.

Cayman has a history of vio;ent crime,ionly it don't make the news much..anmd the criminals are not Jamaicans.
Of the 29 jamaicans in prison there,how many were involved in violent crimes?
How anout the dondemned murferer (who is Caymanian,that escaped 3 times from their prison and the last time it was his family that negiotiated for his return,because they couldn't find him.
As a matter of fact they were speculating that he had fled to Jamaica.

I am not talking about our accomplishments...everyone knows about them. I am saying that our "bad name" that is 'abroad' needs fixing and as long as we deny it in whatever way we choose to deny it, we will forever make ten steps forward with our accomplishments and fifteen backwards with our boorishness.
We can be a very gracious people if we want to be but more time than not, we aren't, and so we end up aggravating situations that could have been smoothed over with a little diplomacy.

That's my concern. We should not continue to hide our head in the sand at bad behaviour. Instead, we should try to help each other understand how to become more ambassadorial (for our country) and develop better coping skills in dealing with that which may be 'foreign' to our nature.

Yes, while there are many wonderful things about Jamaica, or any country for that matter,it does not do us any good to pretend that we do not have things to improve.

When we identify such areas of concern, that's half the battle won. The next half includes working on making them better...for biznizz.
