Re: Re: Young peoples reaction to The Passion
Agreed. "Parental discretion advised" is more like it, then it is up to each parent to decide based on what they allow their kids to see/watch.

I am amused that our children are exposed to so much violence on the net, in movies, on TV and in video games and that is OK to most. Suddenly it is a terrible thing to show what Christ would have gone through. I should say that I am not amused at the violence but at the concept that somehow Christ's suffering should not be depicted but that of others is entertaining.
I am also amused that our children are thought to be stupid, easily traumatized and understand nothing of reality. I disagree. They see, hear and understand more than we give them credit for.
If kids can see death and torture reduced to a video game than they can also see it for what it is. It is not pretty. They do not get points for being involved in the death of Christ. They are not given praise for a direct hit upon the nails piercing Christ's feet and hands. They will not be "high fiving" when the spear pierces Christ's side.
My guess is that they will think. They will look at themselves. They will understand the consequences of their actions (or so I would hope). They may understand that it is as though they are standing over Christ...that it is our failures that took his life. A life that He gave freely for us. And yet...knowing this...I still fail him...but He does not fail me. He does not turn from me but I do from him. THAT is the sad and hideous part.
