personally, if they're going to have the capacity for food pleasure, they may as well go whole hog and have relations pleasure too. oddawise there'll be lots of sublimation goin on, and you will soon get some angels overweight from trying to compensate for a certain lack by overindulging in milk and honey.

of course, it could be that sexual desire is stripped from those heaven bound. which would make things a lot easier.

I've always pictured a bunch of amorphous beings floating around in the sky, munching on grapes, deciding when and where to have their next life.

There is something about the recycling of the soul that I find appealing. More later.

Regarding 'belief', I am simply applying reason to the concept. It's a useful tool.

I can understand that, but it is problematic. The religions that include transmigration emphasise getting beyond this world to a state of active non-being or presence without mind, and seem to believe that life in this world is highly unpleasant -- which for most of the human race, throughout most of history it has been. Constant recycling would suggest failure to make it up and out.

I'm not certain (I'll have to go do some research), but I think Church of Divine Man gets around such "failure." I can't recall offhand if souls can "opt out" of the cycle once they've reached enlightenment, or if CDM uses the whole Christian, world-coming-to-an-end scenario. They pull from quite a few religious and new age traditions, so it's hard for me to keep track of which part of their philosophy aligns with which established religion.

I did have a pretty entertaining past life reading done through them, though, and when I asked about my purpose in this particular life, they said it's apparently to "have fun." That's what I get for not taking them seriously, eh?
