Seriously, now that you mention it, I remember growing up hearing on the one hand that nobody knows what God looks like, which certainly helps one deal with the concept that we were all created in his image (he looks like no-one and looks like everyone).

I like Leonardo work better myself, Love those crazy machines. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] Although the David was nice. I think Michael Angelo was a better sculptor, then a painter.

If you look at the Creation of Adam... God with his flowing beard streches out his right hand and delicately touches the fingure of Adam to insert the eternal spark.... This is a very homoerotic gesture with may suggest the touching of phallues... Both central male figures are in greek classical poses which reinforces the illusion of the forbidden love

On the other hand the old male has his left arm over the shoulders of a rather rightened female.. There is a hint that the god wanted to get the creation over to get his leg over.

There is a hint of peadophilia and child abuse as what may be cherubs could be interpreted as innocent children that the dirty old man wants to seduce after the frighten girl.... if you look closer there is one postioned closer to the gential regions which strongly indicated the possiblity of a sexual act...

course one could take a revisonist postion that the clean shaved youth is actually god and Adam is the old man desperately wanting to become alive so he can indlulge in a serious orgy....

It is a very dramatic picture and I think highly subvrsive in the sexual connotations that are hinted at... Unfortunately for future artists MA did it so well ... So much for the lack of sex for the god head

This is one of my favorites

although so many of his sculptures are amazing. Truly wonderful detail. I wonder what his work would have been like if he were not so religious?
