Re: Who were the Canaanites?
40legz, I am home just for a lunch break. I will try to address your post later tonight.
Sukuna, EL was a generic name for God in the ancient Middle East like how we use the word god today. This indicates that God WAS known by the ancients. The problem was, over time, His legacy was reduced to human corruptions or simply ignored and/or forgotten. EL was ignored in favor of the more enticing god Baal for obvious reaons. Baal was nothing more than a conjured up, glorified imaginative creation of debased human minds to excuse their depravity. El was a long forgotten supreme being who lived way up in the heavens, whose ways were to mysterious, above understanding, and too holy to approach. The thing was, this El revealed Himself to Abraham and Moses and reaffirmed through them who He was.
So yes, you find the name of God in common Hebrew names.
