On Thursday, I’m exhausted, so I fall back asleep after breakfast. Alberto, as usual, goes off to work. About 9:30, I hear a loud "Yoo hoo, you have guests!!” outside. It’s Marilyn, with her George and 2 other friends, all the way from Ochi. Introductions are made, and the vodka is broken out. What a bunch of drunkards, drinking so early in the A.M.!! We sit around and talk, and soon Marilyn and her beau disappear. Somebody said something was going on in the kitchen, but I was frightened to go look.
Eventually they return, but I notice that Marilyn’s formerly perfect hairdo is slightly awry. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]
Tommy comes over, and after introductions, gets on the phone to tell Alberto that there are 3 strange men playing dominoes on his veranda. In a flash, Alberto is pounding up the spiral stairs. He stops and eyes the men suspiciously. After he ascertains that everything is on the up and up, he goes out for another bottle of vodka, more Pepsi and ice, then returns to work. 2 1//2 BOTTLES later , we decide to go onto the beach. Marilyn has disappeared yet again and stays gone so long, that I’m about to send for Babylon to search for her. We find her at last (does she have on different clothes? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] ) and go to get something to eat. Unfortunately one of the Ochi guys is a little “under the weather” and spends the rest of the afternoon throwing up on the beach. Marilyn has disappeared again; this time for a very long time. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] I am left to entertain both friends. At about sunset, I give up.
In the evening after George & company leave to return to Ochi, we nap, then prepare to go out again. I can’t rouse Alberto, so I go out alone with Marilyn to meet up with Geocox at Beach House Villas. Although he has promised food and drink, we are told that George and his current par amour have gone out to dinner!!? We run into swedishrasta who is also looking for George. We all give up and go our separate ways. Marilyn and I decide to check our email at Miyard. We get a cab, and the cabbie says he’ll come back after an hour. After almost exactly an hour, he reappears, just as we exit Miyard. It’s about 11:30 P.M. now, so we decide to go back to Beach House and find George. Instead we find Magic. We decide to go to DeBuss and finally we run into George, sans female friend. After a couple of rounds, we decide to go to The Jungle. George has a driver, and we go off down the Ave.
It’s Ladies’ Night at the Jungle, and the dancehall is packed. We decide to go upstairs where it’s quieter. This makes me happy, because I really hate crowds like this. We hook up with Sienna and Soloman, and hang out until 2 A.M. or so. I drag Marilyn kicking and screaming out of the door. Alberto, I know, is waiting. As I get home, I notice that Alberto is lying diagonally across the bed. I smile, because this is a trick that I used on my ex-husband, so I would know what time he came home from his philandering. As I slide quietly beside him, he asks me what time it is. I tell him; my conscience is clear.
The next day, Friday, we wait on the beach for Angie to arrive. The Texans, Vince and Debbie decide to go out on Alberto’s boat and snorkel.

, has a scam to get the men to stop and talk to her. She tells them she’s planning to have a calendar of “the beautiful men of Negril”. We get lots of company.

Well queenb from all the reports I am catching up on I see you were one busy lady... your screen name seems appropriate now.. all the buzzing and flurry of activity goes on aound you...
love seeing the photos [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] ... I remember the last time you went to roaring river it was so dry.. it really seemed to be roaring this time.. enough to eat poor marilyns back ... were there drummers there,or did I miss that somewhere in the reports?
wonder what your weeks were like before these ladies joined you?? was it as wild.. or more sedate?
My journeys to JA are so different from these reports.. certainly not as wild.. nor nearly as entertaining a read... I'd probably be up when you were sleeping an sleeping when you were on the town... glad you had a great trip.. its hard to come back knowing school is aound the corner [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]Comment

Little did we know that by using Alberto’s boat to snorkel, the Texans inadvertently caused brouhaha on the beach. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] The owner of the boat moored next door to Bar-B-Barn went down the beach and berated Alberto for stealing “his” business! Alberto went to Angela Thompson, BBB manager and daughter of the owner, and asked if he had broken an agreement between the boat owner and BBB. He is told that BBB has no agreement, either formal or informal, with any glass bottom boat; and that he was within his rights to pick up customers at her beach. Without such an agreement, any boat can pick up and discharge passengers at her beach. So much for the controversy? More later.
The Texans return from their day of snorkeling. We await AngieB, but she seems to be a no-show. Finally Marilyn decides to call, but Angie and Peachy are not in their room at Riu. After all, would you be in your room if you’d just arrived in Negril? Taking the bull by the horns, Marilyn goes to Riu, and comes back mad as a hornet! When she got to Riu, finding Angie and Peachy not in their room; the hotel refused to let her enter the grounds to look for them. Not only that, they never offered to have their security look for them on the beach, which is where she assumed them to be. Marilyn writes a blistering note to Angie, lambasting the hotel. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] After a while, she hooks up with Angie and they come back to my place for dinner.
After dinner we nap, to prepare for the evenings festivities. Tonight is the night we decide to go to Little London to Soloman and Sienna’s club, Club LaBoom. Both Angie and Marilyn have been trying unsuccessfully to reach either of them all evening, but we decide to go anyway. Alberto and I have been there before, last summer; but that was before the club was changed over from a strip club to a dancehall. Alberto has a splitting headache (sleep deprivation?), but he gamely agrees to come along. The inside of the club has been converted completely. Marilyn instantly found a local victim to dance into an early grave!! The kid was game, but my girl busted a wine on him so bad that he had to turn his baseball cap around backwards. When he did that, the people looking hooted and hollered!! The only complaint I had was that since I’m so short, I practically got a nosebleed climbing up on the barstool!! After we settled in, Sienna and Soloman arrive. Sienna gives us some really horrible news; Soloman’s mom had died the previous weekend [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] , and he was in the middle of nine-night. He had interrupted his mourning to come to greet us. Alberto’s headache worsened, so we piled in the cab and returned home.
The next day, Marilyn and I sprawled on the beach; Marilyn attracting men like flies, as usual. Saturday night is an Alfred’s night, but after working our way down the beach, we decide to eschew the $100JA entry and go to Irie Vibes instead. Red Stripe there is only $50JA, compared to the $150JA at Alfred’s. At Alfred’s, Alberto tells the “stalker” once and for all to get lost, and he does. We enjoy the atmosphere on the beach, sitting there and looking at all the stars in the sky, and Alberto putting on a floor show. After a while, we stroll down the beach and decide to visit Class at Legend’s for a late-night swim. Getting naked outdoors is easy now, and in a few minutes we are enjoying the tepid pool. After a refreshing interlude, we go home.Comment

Queen, enjoying the read of all I didn't/don't get a chance to experience now that I am working - living vicariously through the reports at this point in life.
Small correction to ward off misplaced sympathies...conversation inside the club is pretty much a virtual impossibility due to the speakers/music level....it was not Soloman's mother who had just died, but our manager's mother. I myself had just learned that, and Soloman had been out all day trying to find everyone to let them know the club was going to be closed.
When no one could be found, Taku (the BEST manager ever, and a good friend) opened the club knowing we had friends coming. However, out of respect, most of the regular dance community was at his mothers or his yard, hence the small turnout for you. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Timing was way off, sorry.
But you missed a great night, as George and Sandrine and Sala and I made the most of it and took in the car clash and the club in Negril and yes, I got in at 5:00 am and went back to work in the same clothes and slightly zoned out as you suggested in one pre-trip report comment. Did it faze the bosses? Not an iota. Oh well....Comment

Hi Queen, I have so enjoyed your trip report. It was a pleasure meeting you last month. I'm sorry I did not get to spend more time with you guys (Marilyn, Alberto, Angie, Magic, Geo) while I was there, so I'm catching up on what I missed via the trip reports. Perhaps I will venture out a little more on my next trip . The pictures were great. I've been taking notes as I plan for my next trip to Negril in a couple weeks.

What is the best night of the week for Club laboom? I am always looking for something fun to do at night, there are only so many places in Anegril to go to the dancehall.Comment

We went on Friday night, but I would think Saturday night would be good also. Remember, this is a dancehall spot, so go late, just like the jungle.Originally posted by rastagal777:

Please keep your trip reports coming! I read the site everyday, but very seldom post.I always tell myself that I will respond to a post, I finally did. I am in Germany, and made it to the states in July,hoping to steal away to Negril for a week or two. Wouldn't you know it, I get calls in the states to interview for Sped teaching positions. So I had to cut my trip short. I was going to Jamaica by myself( I got a job), my husband hates to take off of work(went on cruise to Bahamas without him). Military, he loves his job.It's like pulling teeth, but he loves Jamaica.I don't think neither one of us enjoyed Cancun as well.Our first trip to Jamaica was in 2000. We did the AI thing at Enchanted Garden. We visited Blue mountain, Bob Marley Museum,etc, and vowed to return at least once a year. Anyway ,when is the next girlfriend trip? Can I join? We went last November 2001, I enjoyed it. I stayed at Lost Beach.I took notes, but never posted the full experience,just a brief overview. I am thinking about going in December. We will have the Christmas Break, two weeks.I am really thinking hard about it.And I am planning my summer getaway maybe three weeks to a month in Jamaica.Comment
