Would you believe I just wrote two pages and lost it all? yup I did.. darn.. The thing is guys.. it's so daunting when I try to think of starting a report.. what to say.. what's actually of interest to people anyway... each and every time I go to JA there is something that makes the trip unique, special...
For me this trip had three things.. besides the usual seeing of old friends.. First, it was about the landscape.. the trees especially.. they were like sculptures standing there in the fields.. each striking me so much. so powerful.. hard to explain..
Second, it was about this incredible one day outing with Bruce and Soloman to Jerusalem mountain and into the bush land (one hour from Negril). This was probably my best day in Jamaica ever , ever.. Euphoria.. this day will get its own thread..if I never go to JA again this day did it for me.
Lastly, it was about a painter I met in Negril.. Errol Allen.. quite a talent and buying two pieces...
But for starters since Jim and Geo insist on teasing me I will begin with the AIRPORT!!!!!!!!!!
They both know how I hate reports that tell of driving to the airport, the flight, what food people ate.. lol.. even though I am sure my first reports did the same..
Well, to tell you the truth this time both in JFK and Sangster was a trip.. and things happened worth sharing.. For you New Yorkers be prepared for a full pat down.. and search.. if they choose you out of the group.. which they did to us twice!! must be our good looks.. or the new hair Dan is donning... first we get checked through the initial walk to the gates area.. completely.. no problem.. good job I think.. but when we approach to actually board the plane they signal us again... my heart starts to skip a beat even though I know we have nothing on us.. just can't figure why they check us twice..
they take lighters away from Bruce and Dan.. We think.. so what.. but in TB lighters and matches were hard to come by...
Ok, nice flight.. especially since I pop my new pill provided by my internist since I am not a lover of flying.. I feel so calm.. good deal.
arrive in Sangster.. must say both coming and going is a nightmare this time.. though once outside the doors it's worth it.. (Yes, Marilyn we tipped the singers!!!) We get our first two bags.. No problem but are not swift enough to grab the third as it goes by.. We figure we will wait til it comes round again.. but it doesn't.. what??? We start to get nervous as people leave and no new bags are on the conveyor belt.. we immediately realize someone must have our bag.. we run around like nut cases.. and then I see two huge piles on the floor for groups.. YUP in the middle of one of them is Bruce's bag which I grab up swiftly in the nick of time... I think we have learned that we need less and less and will pack small bags that go on board with us..or one bag that is so identifiable below...
OK, ENOUGH AIRPORT JIM?????? Or would you like to be bored further.. want to know that I exchanged some money there since it was Sunday and we are headed to TB?? the rate exchange was as good as anywhere believe it or not..
Out of here.. out the doors into the heat.. Looking for a guy with a sign.. Eric is driving us to TB and I never met him before..I hear someone say "Nina?" He said he knew it was me.. hmmm .. great.. All of a sudden there is this gal with him and he introduces her as one of his best friends.. I am wondering if he just saw her at the airport and am surprised when she walks to the car with us....
She pops in the front seat of his small car, while my two strapping men and me sit squashed and sweat in the back. Now, this gal turns out to be very nice , and I love meeting people but for the big bucks I am paying to get there and a 2 1/2 hour ride I am initially annoyed that this small lady sits up front.. When I hire a driver, I expect them to just have us... we stop when we want.. etc..but we are new to Eric.. and we go along with it.. happy to be in JA.. and like I said it all turned out well.. there is more on that...
I never tire of looking out the windows and taking it all in.. the smells.. the sounds.. the landscape.. I feel every nerve loosen... my breathing starts to slow down.. we head out of town up in the hills through the countryside.. it's Sunday. things are quiet.. not much open, but we are starved... Dan is now a vegetarian.. which sometimes makes it hard to find food.. halfway through our journey he stops at a roadside place for fish and bread.. they have only three portions and we all devour it like we never ate before.. we stay here for half hour or more.. me soaking in the scenery.. I am so happy...
