Here's another point of view on Miss Brown's Tea Room. We visited "Miss Brown's Tea Room" twice (it is located in a colorful small pink cafe style building, past the roundabout, past the police station, on the main road heading to Savannah-la-Mar) and was told she is no longer there, but the people who were there were very friendly, however. On the first visit we bought a "brownie" $10usd quite good,for 2 people. I was driving to Whitehouse when it "kicked in" but I'll tell you that is a whole other story. It was so good in fact we went back a 2nd time and bought a brownie and a bottle of the tea about $15usd for the 2. I have some pictures but as of yet do not know how to post them. The tea and the brownie evolved into a pleasantly wild, psychedelic experience, and I'm sure the tea alone might well have sufficed.

There is a story about Miss Brown's...she had her famous place and after she died there was some problem between her widower and her son, the former opened (kept?) the Miss Brown's in town, the latter (Tedd) opened his place right next door.

I'm not sure who owns the one on/by the beach, I assumed it was an extension fo Miss Brown's in town but who knows.

This doesn't clear up the thing about Miss Brown's, but these are the notes that I have about Ted's that I got somewhere off this board:

Ted's One Stop: tea and stuff (Ted's will deliver) cup $15-20 US (make sure it's in season, cuz otherwise it's a waste of money) Also Miss Brown's (weaker). Both are on the road by the police station.

Not sure what is "in season" but I wonder if that's why the tea didnn't have any affect.

Yes, that is basically what I was told, that the original Miss brown passed away several years ago and now the Tea House is continued by her family. This was the first week of September and it was definitely "in season" for the tea. After buying the brownie we split it and ate it and continued on our drive. At the roundabout in Savannah-la-mar I took a wrong turn and ended up in the town center on a Saturday morning on market day where things were swinging. It was not the most relaxing surrounding to be driving and enjoying the brownie. Plus, with all of the people it took a while to get back on the road pointed in the right direction to Whitehouse. (the brownie, actually a large slice of a light brown cake, must be in season all year round, it was a little dry but it tasted pretty good)

I remember back about 10 years ago when I was staying in Negril. A bunch of the guests at the hotel wanted to try Miss Brown's 'brownies'.

Everyone was warned to just have some...you know...a piece of one or so. One guy thought he was kinda rough. He ate 2 whole brownies. During dinner he completely freaked out and medics had to come and wheel him out on a gurney...all strapped to it and such.

He was pretty much a bump-on-a-log for the rest of his stay.

That must have been the original Miss Brown.
