Re: T R I P R E P O R T : Ochi, Port Antoni, Kingston, MoBay, Negril
Magic, that was wonderful and I thank you for writing again so soon, but I must admit that I now feel somewhat empty. I think as long as you had not finished your report I had something to look forward to, now it's done, and I sitting here wondering what to do now. And, my God child, you are a young one (5 years ago graduated from high shcool). Who would have thought that such a young man would love the old country so much. Thanks for the effort you put in reporting all the details you thought would bring so much joy to us readers. Cant wait till your trip next week, although short, do something wicked and fun just so that you can report back to us and give us all a Jamaican Fix. Ok, you can do it for yourself too.
Re: T R I P R E P O R T : Ochi, Port Antoni, Kingston, MoBay, Negril
Marilyn, I enjoyed looking at your photos. You've gotta find some more. Or better yet go on another trip and take some more.
Grandma2, Thank you all for the praises, but I'm really not a writer, and not even half as good as Brcworks.
Angie, don't worry they'll be other trip reports posted on teh board to hold you over til your next trip. If this trip coming up works it's gonna be really a short one, but I'll see if I can report on it.
Q, I wish I was getting married in JA or doing the east-west thing again but I only get 3 days off from work. So I'll probably just stay in MoBay. Buy the things I need to get, hit the beach, see what's happening at night and fly back home. One night if the return flight is full, and two nights if I can be sure I'll get on the return flight.
Re: T R I P R E P O R T : Ochi, Port Antoni, Kingston, MoBay, Negril
Hey Magic,
All I could envision as you described your 'roll in the sea' was a content, playful otter frolicking in the water.
No offense: Otters KNOW how to enjoy life!
I can't wait to continue the fine tradition...April 29th I will be discarding shoes, etc... somewhere on that same beach and doing some rolling in the sea myself!
Yep...I grew up in southwest Detroit but have lived out here near Seattle for about 10 years now. All my family is still back there...where abouts ya moving to?
I flew my first Cessna out of Detroit City Airport (the small one on 6 mile) back in college!
It used to be a wonderful city...like a mini-Chicago or a 'poor cousin' of New York. Have you ever been? I'll help you navigate Motown if you help me through Negril!

Ughh... Used to? What about now???
My only experience with Motown was the airport. And every time I go there its cold, cloudy and gray. Every time I go to Seattle its raining, BUT at least it looks green and pretty from the airplane. Can't say the same about DTW. I'm looking into the Westland area. I need to be close to the airport because I hate driving more than 15 minutes to work.
Enjoy yourself in Negril, and write about it when you come back. We'll be here waiting.

Great trip report Magic. I can't wait to experience everything first hand...although the trip reports are pretty darn close!
As for Detroit...wellll...
(Bear in mind that I'm 40 years old and like many my age who grew up in large, inner cities, I'm really quite saddened by the turn some of our cities have taken in the last 20 years.)Now, having said that...
Have you heard of Grosse Isle? (Not Grosse Point!) It's near metro airport and is a really nice, upper middle class professional area. Sort of has an 'island' culture about it.
By the way...if you can navigate your way around a third world country then you will do just fine in Detroit! My son and I went back there last year and I took him downtown to see where I grew up and visit some old churches and a voodoo shop and he had a blast. Email me any time and I'll share any info that may help.
Negril= 22 days till take-off!!!
Re: T R I P R E P O R T : Ochi, Port Antoni, Kingston, MoBay, Negril
Magic, I finally caught up with all the pieces of your report I missed while away..Your trip was a lot like our trip last year..similar stops. This time we also stayed at the Whistling bird.. Great staff there huh? Think I may have finished my report before you..I really owe one more entry but I don't feel like it,so I will leave it..Your report was great to be reading while we were waiting to leave..The flight wasn't all that bad.. I thought of you when we stayed at Toby Inn in Mobay the night before departure.. down by the beach near the runway... We watched the planes coming in for awhile.. Bruce kept saying to me, see, what could be safer? just like you..
Re: T R I P R E P O R T : Ochi, Port Antoni, Kingston, MoBay, Negril
Hey Motown
I can't find Grosse Isle on the map. I'll definately contact you when it gets closer to the move. Which at this point the company won't tell me when, since the employee would naturaly be the last one to know.
BND, where is that hotel you stayed at by the airport, how much is it, and if you have their phone number that will be great.
Re: T R I P R E P O R T : Ochi, Port Antoni, Kingston, MoBay, Negril
Magic, the hotel is called Toby Inn..Just ask anyone.. in the books it has another name.. like sundancers.. it was about $50.. one or two short blocks around the corner is the beach and a bar across the street.. good drinks and pool tables.. you can stand by the beach and watch all the planes land... its quite cool.. I must admit
