Q3210 , It was a thrill flying off those rocks and coming up under the road into someones yard and out again for another dive.
Almost 30 years have passed and it was just like yesterday. It is nice to feel young with memories and I am not yet 50.

Boy time sure did fly. 30 years, wow. I was there in 73, and did Josephs cave over and over again too. Actually walking from red ground to the round about, which wasn't there, all the way to where pickled parrott is now without even thinking of the distance. It's neat finding someone who remembers the cave back then, when he had a little beach in that cave and you had to crawl out thru a hole to get up top. And fish everywhere, Back then We paid $2us for a room per night. That got expensive, and we moved to the beach, where we pitched a tent, for .50 cents per day, and that included a meal. Now I'm over 50 and still jumping. Took the dive last year and walked away hurtin. Ouch!!!

HI!! I am the new found friend to Marilyn&Queen.
We were introduced on the Beach, I believe at Alfreds' one evening. I also met Makeda the same night. Tell her hi for me, and that she is a great dancer to the Raggae music. She and I didn't have dance partners, but we made our dance moves known. After the guys realized I love to groove by myself, guys were hounding me to dance with them!!! We had a great night, and it was pleasure meeting you both!!

LOL Marilyn, some of us work odd hours and can't spend time writing everyday! And the phone idea won't work, since I got the next two days off and work's been trying to reach me since this morning to try to take those two days off away from me! Staffing problem is what we have, see. So I don't answer the house phone and screen the cell phone. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I fly a Saab 340 turboprop. At least until the company sells them all in November. I late October I should be going to traing for the CRJ (Canadair Regional Jet).

Roots Bamboo serves excellent Pineapple Chicken. I got the recipe numerous times, and it never comes out the same at home! And since we're hungry and tired and Roots is about a 2 minute swim to the South, that's where we go.

The waiter is S____. I can never remember his name. Slinky, S something. I'm very bad with names, and since mine is easy to remember, I'm constantly in situations where people say "Whatsup Magic", and I have either no clue as to who they are, or know the face but not the name! Many of the friends I knew that used to work at roots have moved on. It's almost totally a new crew here from a few years ago and only a few people I know. Mr. S asks me about my roommate who came with me last August and January, tell him he's saving money for a wedding next year. He gives me an update on what everyone is up to.

I was very saddened that my friend Kevin has passed away. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] He used to work at Roots around '98. Then works as a crafts vendor near Alfred's. Last time I saw him was August of 2001. Turns out he and a few others were going on a boat to Cayman Islands to work last November. There was a storm and the boat capsized. Kevin always had a smile on his face and a joke to share with others. Eddy from the TV show "Malcolm and Eddy" remind me of Kevin.

The pineapple chicken was delicious as always. The funny thing is, if you order the same thing each night, the food will be different. The sauce will be different color, the taste will be different, even the salad will be different. But as it often the case with Jamaican food, it's always good. The reason behind the nightly variation is the cook. Each cook has a different style, and depending on what night you eat there, the food will change.

Tonight is Tuesday, I think. As mentioned earlier, it's unthinkable to me to keep track of such insignificant things on the Island. There's a party at Alfred's. Makeda and I are both tired but decide we're gonna go anyway.

In the recent years beach erosion has become a serious problem in Negril. The late summer and fall storms eat away at the sand. And the people with their constant activity, digging, running, driving, and what not don't help either. I judge the stage of the beach in Negril by the size of the dancing area at Alfred's. Since '97 it has probably shrunk to half the original size. Another thing I found and didn't like was the fact that Alfred's now charges admission!!! If Alfred's management is reading this, I ask you to please reconsider. It's absolutely against the style and feel of Negril, and the digging of the holes for the fence posts helps beach erosion. The 100J cover charge can't possibly be worth it.

Since its summer, the low season, and the Italian massive hasn't reached yet, the crowd takes time to form. Never really a crowd like during the winter time, or before the tourism industry recession. Makeda asks the very light skinned bartender that's always been there to make her a special rum drink. And that he does. I had a sip and it was great. I have no idea what it was, but it was good and soon Makeda get another. Just then I spot a familiar silver haired lady with her entourage in trail. It's Marilyn! They sit down at a table next to us but don't notice us. I go over and we hug. Marilyn's got Dianne [QueenB] with her, and Connie. Dianne is a great lady. Very nice and royal. No wonder she's The Queen. And I had a pleasure of meeting Connie, who took our advice and signed up to Jamaicans.com! Welcome to the board Connie. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] Now that's what I call field recruitment Marilyn! After a couple of Stripes I was ready to feel the rhythm. Couldn't get into it that night though. That getting up at the crack of dawn got to me. Makeda had no problem getting into it though. Soon she was on the dance floor totally immersed in the music. Of course our own Miss Marilyn had no problem finding a dance partner and periodically disappeared. It was then time to head back. Tomorrow we have a lot of things to do.

You know what.....I just have to say how cool it is meeting up with friends in Jamaica. It never ceases to amaze me that Magic and I are right here in the same city about 5 minutes from each other, but we meet up in Jamaica.
