I understand - the bottom feel out at work for me today - I don't have to work the week-end (I hate be salery) but next week will be pretty hectic for me. I'll desperatly need and look so forward to your updates. In 13 days hubby and I will be in Negril 24 year wedding anniversay and first ever honeymoon.

Magic Man! Couldn`t you have left Makeda in Jamaica, I`m sure that I`d have found somewhere safe and sound for her.

I wake up the next morning because the sun is shining. Not because the alarm rang. Not because someone woke me up. Not because I have to be somewhere. I wake up because the sun is shining through my window and I've had enough rest.

This might be the norm for some of you, but for the other 80% of the sleep deprived world this is actually a treat. It gets even better later when your most important decision is whether to take a sea bath, lay out on the sand, read, eat or walk. So many options and you can't go wrong.

After a "hard days work" of such decision making, I stroll by Bar-B-Barn and although I didn't see anyone, I heard Marilyn calling. Nothing escapes her. I meet Ricky, a professional beach bum. Originally from Virginia he's been residing in Negril for a decade and has countless stories to tell. Marilyn's got a boom box and plays some uncut Lady Saw. Immediately The Royal Couple (QueenB and Alberto) disappear to their room to test out what Lady Saw is preaching. I meet Angie from ATL. What a wonderful person. Right away I felt like I've known her longer than the 3 minutes since we've been introduced. Later on we plan to meet there in the evening to go to Likkle London where Sienna and Salamon are expecting us at their club.
Marilyn comes up with a brilliant idea to sneak up on The Royal Couple, her digital camera standing by. Me being a considerate person that I am do not partake in such mischievous activities and go for a swim.

When we meet later on that night I only find Angie. Since everyone else is also running on Jamaican Uncoordinated Time we find Marilyn asleep in her room, and The Royal Couple arrives shortly thereafter.

Alberto has a headache but we decide to go anyway. No one was able to get in touch with Sienna and company the whole day (turn out they were looking for us too) and we pack into a route taxi and head out east.

Sienna and Salamon's club is beautiful. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] The bar had a nice wooden finish, a nice central dance area and tables around the perimeter. Very neat and clean. The selector played some excellent chunes, and there was only one problem. The guy-to-girl ratio was about 35:1. There were two girls there that I detected, both with boyfriends and not interested in dance. For the the ladies it was great. Turn out the bar managers mother has passed away that weekend and the club is supposed to be closed. That's why the turnout was low. It's very nice of the manager to open up anyway since Sienna told him Jamaicans.com was coming.

While the Queen, Angie and I were enjoying our drinks at the bar, Marilyn was on a reconnaissance mission. She quickly spotter her victim and pulled him out into the empty center stage. She then proceeded to put on a wine on him that he'll probably remember for the rest of his life! Just when he thought it was over, round two happened. That required the guy to rotate his cap backwards since sweat in his eyes was obstructing his vision. Marilyn dances like she was born and raised in Mandeville and not Memphis!! What a show. Later on we caught up with Sienna. She's just as nice, helpful and energetic in person as she is online. She showed me around the family yard. It was getting late, and Alberto's headache didn't let up, so we had to say goodnight and head back to Negril. But not before a quick photo!

I don't know what time we got back in, but it was really late and I had to catch a flight back the next day. But who cares about sleep when you're having fun.

The regular routine the next morning. Route taxi to Sav, Minibus to MoBay, then taxi to the airport. Get on the plane, fly to Memphis, and feel miserable about not being in Jamaica. But nothing is ever routine on the Island.

For example, on the minibus from Sav to MoBay a new record has been reached in regard to the maximum capacity of the vehicle! Now keep in mind that there are 14 regular seats, including the driver. Normally there are 19 people transported with the help of wooden planks spanning the aisles. On this trip however, a record 22 people were carried!! Despite running at 160% capacity, the driver made numerous stops. One at a mechanic to pick up a spare tire [Good idea!], another at a store, and another one for undisclosed reasons in the country. I love it.

Everytime we pass the old Jamaica Railway Corporation's remains of what used to be a great train line linking MoBay with the nation's capital I start daydreaming. If I won the lottery, the first thing I would do was restore that train line. It must have been the most scenic train line anywhere in the world back in its heyday. It's amazing how those locomotives pulled the cars through the steep hills and valleys, across rivers and gullies. By the sea, and across the jungle. The tracks are still there. Some places they are covered by dirt or asphalt. Others places the vegetation left no room for any car to clear. But there are stretches where is looks like a train could operate just fine. Maybe one day I'll get to ride on a train from MoBay to Kingston.

We reach the MoBay bus park. Fortunately some of the 22 occupants have disembarked along the way. I have no problem finding the line of taxis heading towards the airport. Even though our minibus had numerous unscheduled stops, I'll still be arriving at the airport with time to spare.

I love to speak patois to unsuspecting Jamaicans. It throws some of them a curve ball. They expect a typical tourist especially in places like MoBay. And the taxi driver was of the talkative type. As we near the airport he asks where I'm departing to? I tell him Memphis. Then he asks:
"How long you'll be staying there? When do you come back home?"
I had to pause and reflect on what he just said. Because it sounded to nice.
"Mi soon com back home!"

Wow, its great to hear that you can go to Negril and "run into" people you know. This board must really reach pretty far! How often do you have to go to Jamaica (or Negril) to feel like you know people? By the 2nd week of my first time, I felt like I could go to a club and see people I knew, it was great! Thanks for the report, reading it was like reliving the Jamaican experience again =)

Yes hubby and I will be doing some bumping and grinding since we've been waiting 24 years for this. It won't compair to Queenb and Alberto's - but it will be very very fine and good after 24 years we know each others bodies well, and still manage to make it unique occasionally (for those special moments). Just let people know you're going and when, and there's sure to be others who may or may not post who will be there! (right, waterbabie, Ms. Mention, BND1999, Witchy, Sienna, Geocox, Magic, Angie & Marilyn?) I met all of these members and more by posting my trip dates!
