Just to give you a little background. I am taking my 17 month old to Jamaica to meet her Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. It is her first trip to see them and I am so excited to introduce her to all of them and Jamaica. I am separated from Marley's Dad (he lives in the US) but I still want her to know her family and her culture. I plan on taking her at least once a year. BF arrived in Jamaica earlier on the 23rd and will be leaving on the 27th, so our trips are overlapping.
Friday May 23rd
We are up early our flight is at 8:25 so I get up at 4:00 am to get myself ready and Marley ready. I am already thinking that this is going to be the longest day ever. I pray Marley will be a good girl. We get to the airport get to our plane and start walking down the jet way. I turn around to see what Marley is looking at and there is Mr Bigs, Ronald Isley. I smile and keep going. The flight to Miami from Vegas is so long and I don't know how I am going to keep Marley entertained. Thankfully she falls asleep as soon as we get in the air. She sleeps for a couple of hours and then when she wakes we color and play with the toys I brought her. We land in Miami, I get her a hot dog and we are off to catch our flight to Montego Bay. We barely make it...an hour lay over is too short there with a baby but we make it. I am so excited and I keep telling Marley she is going to Jamaica to meet her family. We land in Montego Bay and gather our things and get to the door of the plane. I pray that I don't trip and both of us take a tumble down the stairs. I make it to the bottom okay and I am waiting for the stroller and car seat. I am waiting and waiting and waiting. Finally I ask this guy if he could get it for me. He crawls up in the belly of the plane and after about 10 minutes comes back with it. I have to walk up the stairs carrying a carseat, a stoller, my backpack and Marley. No one offered to help so here I go...I make it and off to immigration I go. I am the last one to arrive and I missed the welcome song that Iove to hear from the native singers. I actually got to catch a song while in line. So now have to go collect our bags along with all the other stuff I have. I go to customs and the lady asks me if I had been here before. Yes I answer, do you have any family here, I answer no. She says go ahead. Thank goodness I said no otherwise I am sure they would have opened my bag and I was bringing a lot of gifts. So we get out of customs and I go to get us a taxi. The man says 90.00US. I tell him that is for a private taxi I want a Juta buss. So I get that squared away and they told me to go wait by the post he will soon be back to get me. Marley is being and angel. Not fussing or wanting to run around and I know she has got to be tired of sitting and now we have to take a bus to Ochi. So they come back for me and take me to the buss. We get in and sit behind the driver. He has his girlfriend next to him and another worker behind her and they talk the enitre ride. I didn't mind because the way they talked was so musical. I was nervous about not having Marley in a carseat for this ride but there wasn't really much I could do. I sit her down and we start going, the radio is on and I look over at Marley, she has the biggest smile on her face and she is looking up at me bouncing to the music. I said see this is your home. I wanted to cry. I went to Jamaica when I was 6 months pregnant with her and it was like she remembered. She fell asleep on the way and I sat and listened to the driver and his friends talk. I think to myself this is such a different feeling this time. I am not going to visit my love but it is like I am home. I am not nervous or anxious or any of that like I have been in the past but I am so relaxed I can't even believe it. We pull up to Fishermans Point, I get all of our stuff and head to the desk to check in. It is about 8:30 now and I need to get Marley some milk before she goes to bed. I ask at the front desk and they say they have a story but it is closed. They open it up and let me buy some milk so I don't have to go and get some. I couldn't believe how nice they were. They help me with my bags and finally I sit down and rest. Marley is in heaven they have 2 big pillows on the floor that she runs and jumps on. I start making her some shells and cheese and getting us ready for bed. But at the same time I want to go out on the street just because I am here and I can. I decide against it...feed Marley and we go to bed. Lightning is begining and durring our sleep you can hear the rain pooring outside. I love it! It never rains in Las Vegas.
May 24th
We get up I give Marley a bath, I take a shower, I do my hair. Blow it dry and everything. What a mistake. This day it rains all day. Today Marley's Dad is suppose to come buy to pick us up to go in the hills to his family's yard. He is suppose to come by at 12:00. We agreed on it before we left Las Vegas. So it is 7:00 in the morning and we are getting ready but I have to go take a walk on the beach rain or shine. We get out there around 10:00 Marley loves the water and doesn't want to leave the beach but I am hungry and I know she must be too. We go to Substance and get rice & peas, brown stew chicken and cabbage. Marley is a picky eater but she likes the chicken. We go back to the room and wait for her Dad to call. No call so I decide we are going to take a nap. It is her nap time. So about an hour and a half into the nap he calls, he is at the front desk. I tell him to come up and he shows up with his older brother Chris. He is the sweetest guy. He wants to see Marley right away so I show her to him, she is sleeping. I get ready and wake Marley up. I change her and get ready to go. Chris must carry her he says. So I let him. He has the umbrella and then entire walk to get the taxi she is saying "rain, rain" it was so cute. We stop at the bottom Mother's for some Patties before we get out taxi to go up in the hills. We eat and then go up to the Woolworth Plaza to get a taxi. I had seen a taxi driver earlier in the day and said I would be back in an hour and will need a taxi. We walk up and he walks up to Chris and I and says are your ready for a taxi. At the same time BF sees an old friend that is a taxi driver and says we are going with him. Chris was almost in the other car so it caused quite a commotion. We are on our way up into the hills.
