Shortee- We have stayed several times at Mo. Bay. We get togeather with the same large group of people each year, some of whom are African American, there has never been an issue with skin color. Relax and have fun, don't get so wound-up.

Regarding the stolen camera, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that it was NOT staff but a guest that stole it.

Those hotel jobs are too precious to risk on something dumb like stealing a camera that's out in plain sight.

We stayed at Sandals MoBay about 15 years ago and enjoyed it a lot. You will have planes go overhead but staff will tell you to wave at them. It's no biggie, really.

My only complaint is there isn't very much to walk to from there, ifyou plan to go out and explore you'll likely need a cab.

Liz is right there isn't much to walk to. We took a shuttle to Sandals Inn and walked all over. Had a great time shopping and seeing some of the other resorts near there. You can also visit other Sandals resorts. I'd recommend eating at Royal Thai at SRC. we have also visited Sandals Negril and Rick's Cafe. I'd also see the Dunns River Falls if I were you. The tour will allow you to eat lunch at either SDR or SOR. Enjoy your trip!!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Sounds like YOU are the one with the ethnicity problem. Sandals is a wonderful chain of resorts. Do they market to whites? I doubt it. Are the majority of guests white? Yes, I won't argue with that. However, don't play the "race card" and expect to get away with it. You have issues with JAMAICANS showing discrimination towards blacks? Gimmie a break! Congrats... You win the "Get-Over-Yourself-Award" for acts of self-centeredness over and above the call of duty.

One more thing-- If I have to call myself WHITE... you have to call yourself BLACK. However, we are both AMERICANS and unless you are in America on a student visa from Namibia or something, there is no 'African' in your American.

Having been to Jamaica 25 times and Sandals/Beaches 11 times, I do agree that the music has become too Americanized. However, they do respond to what the guests put on the comment cards, and a lot of people (being highly North Americans from U.S. and Canada and also Europeans)did want less reggae. My husband is one of those. I liked it when we heard 90% reggae, as I agree that I can hear other stuff at home.

It must be tough to be in the hotel biz and try to please everyone. However Sandals/Beaches must be doing something right because they are so full that they are bumping people elsewhere.

I have stayed at Sandals MoBay and yes it is right next to the airport but you are having so much fun you don't even hear them go by. Plus you wave to them as they go by because they are leaving and you are not!
Sandals is wonderful and you will love it. Let us know when you get back how it was.

For the record, G-Man is my husband. We've stayed at all of the Sandals resorts, on all of the islands in the Caribbean. We've been to most of the SuperClubs and also some other AI in Jamaica. Fact is, ALL discos in the Mega-Resorts, suck. Unless, of course you like that techno rave type of music. If you want to listen to good Reggae and Dancehall Reggae, you have to bring a radio, or go to a local dancehall.
Point being, that it's all in what each one of us is looking for. That being said, differences of opinions is what makes these forums so wonderful for those looking for information. We all have wants and needs and they're not the same wants and needs as anybody elses. Just because Shortee absolutley hated Sandals, doesn't make it the right/wrong choice for other folks. All we can do is provide opinions and experiences, so others can make as informed choices as possible.

To the original poster, you will hear the planes for the first hour or so....then it was unnoticable for me. I was having too much fun! I think our room may have been ready late too....but after we were told soon come, we grabbed a mudslide and hit the beach. I think that may be because they are so close to the airport, that they have alot of late check-outs. We also took the shuttle to Sandals Inn and wandered around from there. The staff was wonderful when we were there, the food was fantastic. We had a great time. But we have a great time no matter where we stay in Jamaica.

Sara_lee The Airplanes will not bother you after the 1st hour or so. Bring beach clothes in your carry on. Just in case you need to wait for your room, it does happen sometimes. Relax have fun. Tell Gary at the main bar Mike & Mikki say hello. Give Turner a hug, he will be the one who checks you in and gives you a cold towel and some champagne.

Now there is a classic if ever I heard one!!!!!!Elvis Presley impersonators singing Raggae in Montego Bay Jamaica. Be still my foolish heart!!!
Hey I live in Memphis, Tn and try my best to be out of town during "Elvis" week in August. Perish the thought that I should run to Jamaica to get away and run smack into Elvis. These folks here just worship that man. DO you know they have come out with a new line of Elvis Presley furniture? The funiture fit for a king. Lord help us all. Elvis was the essence of TACKY.

Shortee - thanks for sharing your thoughts. To be honest, I understand your feelings and respect your opinion. So sorry you didn't enjoy this particular location. I hope you had a blast when you returned to Jamaica.

BMAX - Very well said. Your thoughts have both calmed this post and provided some good information. You are so right about the music that is played in the resort clubs. It sucks big time. I avoid them at all costs. Because they try to please so many, you wind up suffering through hour intervals of music that you absolutely hate. I find local clubs or outside bars that play real reggae mon.

Marilyn - I'm still laughing. Love your post. I could not imagine and Elvis impersonator singing Trenchtown Rock let alone listen to it.
