It is a beautiful red colored fruit. We were told that you cannot eat is until it has “opened” up. To eat it prior to its opening would be detrimental as it is poisonous.

Hi Tonya!!! Glad you dropped by and are enjoying my report. I will be taking my first trip to Ochi in July. I can't wait. I hear all the time how aditing that part of Jamaica is. Feel free to share any "not to be missed" areas in Ochi.

“Yes as a matter of fact I was. Do you know that guy?”
“Yeh mon”
“How old is he?”
“I tink about 19 or 20.”
“He offered me his services, a massage and something else.”
“Yeah mon, the guys around here, dem like beauty. He saw you and let you know he was interested.” He laughed at the end.
“Interested??? Why would he be interested in someone twice his age?”
“Well, to tek care of you.”
“Oh, that’s what I thought.”
“But he knows to stay away now, he knows you wid me. Much respek fi you now.”
“That’s good, but I wasn’t worried, he isn’t my type.” (I was being facetious.)
“What is you type??”
Before I got a chance to answer, one of the workers called for him to help with a problem. I was glad because I really didn’t have a reply other than they must be way beyond puberty and not look like my son.

He still had about 2 hours before the end of his shift so he asked me to hang around until he was through and then we would talk about tomorrow. Oh yeah, that’s right, tomorrow is Tuesday. All of a sudden I felt this knot build up in the pit of my belly. He excused himself and went to attend to the matter.

I finished my drink and ordered another. What am I going to say?? How am I going to handle this? He told me he loved me. I don’t think he “LOVES ME”, loves me, but I’m not sure how I feel about him. I’m not sure if I like him as a friend or something more. It’s been a long time so I don’t know if I’m ready for this drama.

The time passed quickly. I went to the bar to see him. We needed to talk.

“Did you miss me?’ He asked with a big smile.
“Yes I did, very much.” I was smiling too.
He didn’t waste any time and asked me if I would still be able to spend time with him tomorrow.

I looked down, then up into his eyes. I told him that I couldn’t go out with him and he listened patiently while I explained in great deal why. There was a moment of expected silence, but I didn’t expect what happened next.
“You know, I undastan. It’s okay, me don’t wanta pressure you. Just keep me numba close by and call me if you change your mind. I have the day off.”

I was in surprised. I expected him to be persistent and try to convince me that spending a day with him would be the most memorable experience of my entire life. But he didn’t. He just patiently listened, never questioning or accusing.

“Thank you for understanding.” was all I could think to say.
“No problem Vi.” He reached across and held my hands. Oh no, I forgot about the “touch”. Had he did that BEFORE I cancelled, I probably would not have.
Just then, Adrienne came over and said she was going to get some fries. She asked me if I wanted something to eat. I told her I was fine. She glanced down and saw we were holding hands, smiled and walked away. He continued;
“Like I said, no pressure. I just wanted to spend time with you to talk and maybe dance a little. I get off in an hour, will you wait fe me tonight?”
“Yes, I’ll wait out front again.” Actually I didn’t want to leave him. He was being so sweet. I was even thinking about changing my mind and keeping the date, but I didn’t want to appear flighty.

Adrienne came back with a plate full of fries and a soda. I was too nervous to eat. We walked out to the lobby and sat down. She worked on her fries, I worked on my third ice tea (Long Island). I told her what I did. She told me I was nuts.

“Girl, it’s obvious he likes you. What’s the problem?”
I didn’t want to tell her everything because it was extremely personal, so I just told her that I wanted to get to know him a little more before I spend time alone with him.
“Well how will you get to know him if you don’t spend time with him. As far as I can tell you don’t have anything to worry about. He’s got a great job and he’s not going to do anything to jeopardize his employment. He has a car and his own place. What were you two going to do anyway?”

“He wanted to take me out to dinner and to listen some music, but I asked him to teach me how to make curried chicken.”
“Wait a minute, he’s taking you to his place??? Girl he’s single AND cooks?? I don’t see what you are worried about. I would go. He wouldn’t do anything you wouldn’t want him to do.”

“He is nice and we have good conversations.”

“You know you are going to regret not going out with him. I’ll be gone and you will be here alone until Friday. You hang out with him on Tuesday, he goes back to work on Wednesday. What is the dang problem Vi??? This is your first trip to Jamaica, about a dozen men have approached you and you were uncomfortable with every one of them. Why are you torturing yourself??? Go out with him a have a good time!!! You don’t have to marry him or have his child…just dinner! It probably wouldn’t hurt if you let him kiss you.”

She was right. She made a lot of sense, but I still couldn’t do it.

She finished her fries, I finished my drink and we moved on. We peeked into the Galaxy to see if anything was going on. It wasn’t which was no surprise. Adrienne went back to the room and I went to wait for Wills.

He came by and we talked for over an hour. He told me he was going to Florida to visit his brother for two weeks in September. He asked me to meet him there. “How sweet!” I thought to myself. He must have been thinking about asking me all night because he had it all thought out. He told me when he was leaving and we would stay in contact. I could come on Friday and stay until Monday. He assured me I would be welcomed in his family’s home. This is the first time he was persistent.

“Please, tink about it. I really want you to come, I know you will have a good time.”
His smile melted my heart. I was almost in tears agonizing over this very tempting offer. This time I took hold of his hands.

He told me that he would be working the morning shift tomorrow so that he can see me before I check out. We could still go out, if I changed my mind about dinner.

He has been a gentleman from the moment I met him. He never tried to even kiss me or touch me inappropriately. I really appreciated the respect he was showing me and I told him just how much. I know I sound pitiful and lame. I just didn’t understand why. He was a sweetheart.

It was getting late so he insisted on walking me to the elevator. We strolled along without saying a word. I got to the elevator and gave him a quick hug. He took both hands and gentle caressed my face.

“Sweet dreams Vi. I hope they are all about me. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Good night Wills.”

Day 8: Tuesday – August 13 – Adrienne leaves, Hotel Glorianna

Tuesday, oh what a sad morn. Adrienne is leaving today and I check out of the Sunset. I will be relocating to the Hotel Glorianna & Spa on Sunset Avenue. Agee said it’s a nice place, very reasonable. I am so sad because I only have 3 more nights in Jamaica and I’m not ready to even think about leaving. I think Adrienne is ready to get home because she misses her daughters.

I pack, take my things down to the holding area and checked-out. All before 9:00am. It was a beautiful, bright sunny day. I grabbed one of the hotel comment sheets and filled it out while I was waiting for Adrienne to come down. I gave the resort all high marks, not just because Wills works there, but I really enjoyed the resort and might stay there again. Hey I said “might”. Maybe. It was a very pleasant experience. I just wouldn’t book any tours or trips through their reps. I would make those arrangements by contacting the folks through Jamaicans.com.

Adrienne and I went to breakfast. Our waiter for today is Kemar.

This 23 year old cutie is a real sweetheart. He was very attentive to us. Whatever we requested, he got for us accompanied by one of his dazzling smiles. Thanking him just didn’t feel like it was enough. I hate the fact that there is no tipping allowed at this place. I knew I would be gone before his shift is over; he had to work until 4:30. Adrienne was leaving at 2:30 and I was leaving at 3:00pm. I could have delayed my departure, but I didn’t think about it at the time.

He gave me his address so that I could send him a little “sumtin, sumtin”. He deserves it, just didn’t want to risk giving it to him there.

Breakfast now over we headed back to the room to make sure nothing was being left behind. I heard a familiar voice say “Mawning”. It was Wills standing behind the lobby bar. I was happy to see him.
“Did you dream about me las night?”
“No, I couldn’t fall sleep because I was THINKING about you all night.” We both laughed.
“I thought about you too. Do you know where you will be staying?”
“Yes the Hotel Glorianna. Do you know where that is?”
“Yeah mon. I know where dat is. What about dinner? You changed your mind?”
“No. I will be going out with my friend Agee and her family tonight. “
“When do you leave?”
“Friday. I have to be at the airport by 3pm.”
“Do you have transportation?”
“Yes, Agee is taking me.”
“I hope I can see you before you leave.”
For some reason, I didn’t feel the same. Like an idiot, all I could say is….“That would be nice Wills. I’m going up to help Adrienne with her luggage now, I’ll be back.” And I left.

I went to the room to double-check my packing and to have one last look at the Caribbean from my balcony. Where does the time go???

Surprisingly there was a cool breeze coming from the ocean. It was a kind and gentle goodbye which brought tears to my eyes. I was looking forward to getting away from the crowd, but not leaving my source of comfort.

Adrienne decided to stay in the room until 12 because it was so hot outside and the air in the room was so cool. I told her just don’t get caught, they may charge us for another day and they have MY credit card number. I went back down and looked for Wills. He wasn’t behind the bar, so I got a drink, strawberry daiquiri, and sat in one of the “big chairs” for the last time. I took out my music, slipped in reggae and reminisced about the past 8 days. OOOhhh so much to think about.

I was brought back to the present when Wills tapped me on the shoulder. He was looking for me earlier to join him on his break. He was now heading back to the bar to relieve the other worker.
“Come ova, me want to talk.”

I told him to go ahead, it would take me a few minutes to put everything away. Actually, I just wanted to sit alone for a few more minutes. Not that I didn’t want to be with him, I was just enjoying being with my thoughts of Jamaica and what this trip had done to me.

After about 15 minutes, I went over to see him. He was patiently waiting for me with a special drink, it contained NO alcohol. I don’t know what it was, but it tasted good and very fruity. I guess he was telling me that is was too early in the day to consume alcoholic beverages. He was right.

“Call me when you get settled in your room at the Glorianna. You have my cell phone numba?”
“Yes.”
“You gonna call me, taday?”
“Yes, I will call you after I settle in.”

He spoke to me in between mixing and pouring drinks. He had the ability to focus on me, when he was talking to me, and focus on them when he was tending to them. He kept apologizing to me whenever he had to leave me and wait on them, I told him not to worry about me. He said worrying about me is a pleasure. He made me blush again.

I can’t help thinking that if he is this attentive to me while doing his job, I can only imagine the attention he could give me without any distractions. I have a feeling I’ll never know.

I wrote a note to give him before I leave for the Glorianna. The note tells him how glad I was that we met and I gave him my home phone number. I really wanted to be his friend. I wanted to be able to visit him when I return. I wanted us to keep in touch. I don’t know if he’ll call or not. There will be no regrets if he doesn’t.

After many hugs and last minute “cautions”, Adrienne is on the bus headed for the airport. We wave good-bye and breath a sign of relief.

I have an hour before my driver arrives. I walked around taking more pictures and saying my good byes to the Sunset.

My driver arrives right on time. While he is loading my luggage in the van, I dashed over to Wills to give him the note and say good-bye. I’ve got this feeling that I won’t see him anymore this trip.

I arrive at the Hotel Glorianna. The price was right, $35US per night, single occupancy. Two guys are sitting at a desk outside, Henry drives the hotel shuttle, and Archer, the day guard. Archer took my bags to my room. The air conditioner was broken in that one so he put me in another. The new room faced the pool and had a window which I thought was a good thing, until morning.

I had room 2128. Full size bed, phone, color tv with a variety of cable channels including a 24-hour porn channel. Looks like adult porn from the 80’s. A private bathroom with a shower. There’s a restaurant, bar, gym and spa on the premises. They also have suites with a refrigerator and stove for $70US a night. Up to 6 people can stay in a suite. I didn’t see one.

This room was comfortable and very clean. It was just that…a room. To sum it up as far as hotel accomodations, I liked the Sunset, but I didn’t dislike the Glorianna.

The hotel is within walking distance to the hip strip. It was okay to walk during the day, but you definitely had to cab it at night. Security at the hotel was tight. A guard was at the door 24/7. I was pleased.

Today. it is HOT and after all the morning’s activities of packing, moving and unpacking, I was ready for a mid-day shower and fresh clothes. As I was searching through my suitcase, the phone rings. It was Agee. She wanted to know how the room was. I told her it was fine. She said she’d be by to pick me up so that we could spend a couple of hours together. I said okay.

I showered, changed and waited for Agee. In between time, I made a quick call to Wills. He was glad to hear from me. I gave him my room number and he asked if he could stop by later. I told him that Agee is coming by after work to pick me up to spend some time with her and her family.

We talked briefly and me...about him...about me & him..about us.

Then came the warnings. He said if I needed to go anywhere to call him. He told me not to go out at night unless I’m with someone I know. He told me to make sure the room door is secure.

“Oh Wills, who in their sane mine would want me??? Thank you for being concerned and I’ll be careful; I know how to take care of myself. Please don’t worry.”

He scolded me for not taking his words seriously and then added to the "don't do list" because he may know I am the rebellious sort. (smile). My how nice the sound of a man’s voice when he is being protective.

Nothing else needs to be said. I consented to his directions. He told me he was happy that I called. I said good-bye.

He said, “I love you.”

I have a good time at Agee’s home. Dinner was delicious, fried fish, salad, rice, juice, and grape kool-aid . After dinner, she and her husband take me out to their yard to show me a “breadfruit” tree.

He climbed the wall, still in his office clothing, and with a long stick, knocked one from its high place in the tree. They told me how it is prepared. Placed directly on the heat/fire and turned periodically. I forgot to ask them how could you tell when it is cooked.

Later, they had a friend to “stop by”. They introduced me to him and let us talk while they did other things in the house. He was very attractive and really nice, but I didn’t feel a spark. Neither did he. I wasn’t his type. I can feel that “she’s-got-a-cute-face”, BUT “she’s too-fat-for-me ((((vibe)))) from a mile away. I’ve seen it and felt it a lot. Or should I say, I “see” it and "feel" it a lot.

He soon departed.

The evening with Agee was nice, but I couldn’t wait to get back to my room to relax. As I put the key in the door, I thought about how nice it would be to fnd a message waiting for me from Wills.
When I entered the room, the little red light was not blinking. No messages.

It was still early and I was no longer tired. Really wasn’t interested in watching tv. I’ll take my music outside by the pool along with a nice stiff drink. All I had in the room was Appleton but it had to mix with something. I went to the hotel bar in hopes of getting a Rum Punch. The bar was closed.

I was too restless to sit in that room alone so I went out front. I asked the guard if there was someplace I could go for a drink. He said yes, but I would have to take a cab, it wouldn’t be safe for me to walk.

It just so happened that he was talking to a driver who was supposed to pick someone up form the hotel. They called for the person, but no answer.

hey Vi....don't feel bad about taking free drinks from Margaritaville...

You are right, in some places that would be a sacrifice, but trust me, they're not even blinking over something like that. You and your whole family 3 generations long could drink and eat for free there for a month and their CD would never skip a beat nor would their wallet be dented, lol...

So next time you are there drink up, heh heh heh...

I wasn’t familiar with a lot of places in Negril, But based on the business that Magaritaville does in MoBay, I guess it’s no different there. That place was packed both nights I peeked in. I loved Sunset when I stayed there a couple of years ago. It was a little weird because I remember when it was Seawinds and I spent at least one New Year's Eve in the club that used to be there called The Cave. Now that place used to rock.
