Ok...we are back in South Africa now, crossed the border about an hour ago...we are in a town called Drakensberg. It is now 3 am so we are going to stay at a guest house (B & B) for the night and then continue our journey tomorrow. We need to be in Johannesberg by 6pm tomorrow for our flight out. YIKES!!!

I visited Senegal a few years ago and it was equally as beautiful and the people are so nice, it was hard for me to believe it. There is a section that they call SeneGambia that has a number of people who escaped the madness in the capturing of slaves from both Gambia and Senegal, where (you are absolutely right) most of the slaves derived.

Are you staying in hotels? or are you crashing with friends/family?

We have been doing both. We prefer to stay in guest houses over traditional hotels, because we have been learning quite a bit from people who share their homes with us. Accomodations are not very expensive here - in fact, most things are very cheap. Example: Closeup toothpaste costs 69 cents - We've been lucky for meeting some really great people along the way.


Besides the ones you mentioned, are you visiting any other African nations on this trip?

Wow Nice Nurse the pictures are beautiful, I will have to show my husband he will get a big kick out of seeing it!He's from kenya but he wants to go to South Africa as well.

1. Did you go with a tour group?

2. I love their style of singing did you get to hear any live performances?

3. Did you get any marriage proposals yet?

4. Are the men flirtatious or very laid back?

5. The kids look happy what was the name of the school you visited?

6.What was the best dish you ate? Worst dish?

7. How did you feel when you saw the sign Whites only? Bold right in your face?

8. If you see that red bottomed monkey again give him some baby powder and diaper rash cream he needs it! lol

9. Are you only wearing your clothes or are you wearing some of their wardrobe as well?

I love Africa it is an unexplainabel feeling I get there... All the troubles and I can still smile... to see a smile in Africa from an Afrcican is unexplainable joyfull.. But it is different to Jamaica.....

OH NN, I was in south africa a week ago, in Johannesburg to be exact and what a missed opportunity.

You should have crossed over to Botswana ( NOTE to anyone else coming to Southern Africa : We have BIGGER elephants this side [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] )

But I am glad you had that experience. I am always saying how I can relate to people on this board cos our cultures etc are so similar.

Thanks for sharing Night Nurse, this is definitely thread of the year.

I remember seeing a low budget movie made in Africa -- not sure which part. It was the story about a young boy in love with an older girl. This boy worked about 15 different kinds of jobs to save the money for the dowery to the father of thisgirl. Everything he does, the places he went, the homes all reminded me of Jamaica.... still cyaan memba di name of movie [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
