Seveen, it's true that Christmas is more low-key in Jamaica. From my childhood, the big thing about Christmas was being in Christmas pageant at church. Also, a lot of the more fundamentalist Jamaicans (and there are many) consider Christmas pagan.

Religious plurality is a good thing and I think almost every religion in the world is reflected in Jamaica. I have spent several Christmas there escaping the commercialism and greed that we experience in the US.
People recognize that it is Christmas but things are very low key there and the day soon passes. I was so proud of my son this year. He received a few presents (only small stuff that could fit in the suitcase). He was like - mom this is nice - can we go to the beach? [/qb]
