A special visitor

Orbra is such a kind soul. She has made so may good friends in Jamaica so quickly. One of them is a friend from Skycsatles. This is his off day (only one a week mind you), and she has asked to meet his little boy. A chocolate angel arrives in Daddy’s arms dressed like a miniature man, all the way down to the underwear.

Shy at first, he clings to his father. Mother earth soon decides that taking off the shoes and socks, the dress shirt, and making him comfortable, and of course……in typical Dr. O fashion, next comes the food. Might as well not have fixed that because both father and son just mess over it. Daddy pushes it from one side of the plate to the other, and the son does much the same.

I notice that Daddy is very intense and distracted and not at all himself today. Then, he has a lot on his mind….a lot.
Mother handed baby over almost after birth and proceeded to live in Kingston. Daddy is raising him with the help of his mother (grandma). I have heard this story repeated over and over and over. Sometimes the men give you the impression that the mother callously left and has a hard heart. Later you will find that they are in prefect communication (and sometime still seeing each other), but it was economically more feasible for the woman to leave to go work elsewhere and send money back.

I don’t know which is the case here, but I look at this doll and wonder how his mother could bear to leave him which ever scenario it is. He soon warms up and is everywhere, out on the balcony, up and down the stairs, play talking on the telephone, or using the TV
Remote as a cell phone.

I’m just watching him and thanking my lucky stars that mine is grown up because I am too old to keep up with such boundless energy. I watch baby for almost 2 hours, then I realize that Ochii is out there and I am in here babysitting. I beg off and leave Mother Earth and Daddy to enjoy the terrible two’s without Auntie Marilyn.

But isn’t he just a pure doll?????

Brownie 2 and posse

The next morning, Brownie 2 arrived on a cruise ship with about 10 of her friends and relatives. I had long held a dream that someday I would be at Skycastles and someone I know would get off one of those ships and come to my place to visit.

I have arranged for Marshall to pick the ladies up. Brownie is frantically calling me to say that she and her party are at “the gate”, but do not see Marshall, but that several men, and even a woman are claiming that they are Marshall and Marilyn sent them. I know this is not true because Marshall is calling me just as frantically saying that he cannot find them.

“Marshall, how do you miss a lady in a leopard print swimsuit covered up by white shorts, with 10 other women with her?”

They both tell me they are at the gate, but do not see each other.

Today there are TWO ships in port. I find out that Marshall is a “the gate”, for ship #1,and my girls are at the gate for ship #2. He hops in the van, goes over there, and rescues they from the woman driver who is claiming to be Marshall.

Orbra has planned for Chef #2, chocolate perfection, to prepare a Jamaican breakfast for us at her place. I call her and beg them to move the breakfast to my place. No problem.

The ladies arrive and oooo and ahhhhh over my place and my view. I am a happy little girl. I have 10 lovely ladies on my tiny balcony, but somehow we fit. I am pouring tings and talking about Ochii, and Marshall is beaming like he is married to each one of them.

Orbra comes in with Lisa and they are introduced to everyone. I am running from room to room at Skycastles knocking on the doors of strangers and asking for their extra patio chairs. They hand them over without even flinching.

CP comes in with the groceries to begin cooking. I have had to call K in to help Marshall take Brownie and posse on their tour, and I have told them how fine their driver is. When CP enters my room, the ladies emit and audible gasp. They want to know it THAT is their driver. He is standing there with grocery bags in his hand, looking out to the balcony and flashing the 100wt. Smile.

“No, I say real blasé, that is not YOUR driver, that is MY chef. “

Just then K comes in.

“Now THAT is your driver.”

“Oh” (disappointed)

Now K is a looker, but after you see CP, ok I can understand.

After some conversation and pictures, off the ladies go on their tour.

Lisa and the driver leave, and Orbra enjoys my ambiance while I take a nap.

Dreams do come true.

Marilyn only you alone can get this type of attention. The thing I love best about the men in Jamaica is that they have all the time in the world to romance a woman...it's strange but I find it to be true...Now as they migrate here the urge to make the almighty dollar is first and foremost and the woman slowly disappears....If I was in the position to meet a man I would want to remain right there in Jamaica.....will the honeymoon end? I don't know, because I have never been involved with a Jamaican man on the island...............

My days are winding down now; Orbra has decided to run back over to Negril for a minute, she has it like that, so I am once again alone in Ochii.

Angie has asked me to price some furniture for her, just curious about what this or that costs in Jamaica. This morning I find myself on the way to Court furniture store. Marshall calls to check on me, and tells me that he is at the car wash. He wants me to come check him.

I walk over there and he is sitting on a portable stool. He doesn’t move, but lets me walk all the way up to him. A friend is standing near, and I know what this is all about, he wants his friend to see that I came all the way to him and he did not move, HE IS THE MAN.

He takes me to Court and up to second floor we go to price Angie’s furniture. Curious eyes look at us as we bounce on a mattress or two to test it. They think that I am yet another tourist lady who has kidnapped a young Jamaican man and that we are either married or preparing to cohabitate. OK I can have fun with this and make it a point to touch Marshall’s arm often, discuss prices with him loudly, and call him “honey.”

You know I got “that look”, from a group of middle-aged Jamaican lady shoppers. The look that makes you turn into a pillar of salt like Lot’s wife.

Marshall took me back to Skycastles until he picked me up later to go to beach night at M’ville. I have on a two-piece leopard print thing with matching suit.

Marshall calls me from the parking lot to come out to the car; don’t Jamaican men come to the door to get their dates? M’ville Wed. night is M’ville Wed. night. Plenty of drunk people ordering extra drinks so they can continue to drink after till 1:00 AM cutoff time.

Marshall leaves my side for one minute to go to the bar, and a man moves in. He quickly tells me that he is having a big party at his home with a live band and open bar. He thinks I am “well put together”, and wants to know if I will come. When he tells me his name, he steps back to look at the effect it had on my face. I guess he was supposed to be somebody, but I didn’t have a clue.

When Marshall returned and saw him near me, he stepped between us, rested his hand on my shoulder, and looked at Dude like “move”, and he did. Jamaican men….gotta love em.

Marshall and I danced over in the REAL dancers corner until well into the morning. Yes, our Marshall can drive and dance too. He was a good partner, but LORD those other young people in the dancer’s corner!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wished for Orbra. She said that she had never seen anyone wine, she SHOULD be here now!!!!!!!!!!

Next to the Last Day
What will I do with this precious day? After today, I only have one more day left in Jamaica. First I take myself on a soup hunt, I was successful, and now know where I can find some good soup, a smile, pleasant conversation a friendly people everyday of the week.

Then I had a meeting at M’ville with the manager to see about VIP status for GFT in the future. Got that done, then it was on to call P to come get me and tour this resort.

I walk down to General Foods and buy one of everything with “Made in Jamaica”, or “product of Jamaica on the label. I have P and his driver to pick me up there. We wind up a mountain through a little town I now forget and up to this rustic lodge like place that he and his partner are making into a holistic healing spa set up.

Right now it needs a lot of work, but they tell me about some of their plans and they sound good. He was right, it is a very pretty view, but mine is prettier (sorry).

The partners are an interesting couple who met at some kind of health spa thing and they then came to Jamaica. Just from the little time they were there from a cruise the wife wandered away, saw this property, and they bought it.
When I start my tour, I step into the first bungalow and freeze. Angie had always dreamed of having a fireplace in Jamaica, but given the climate, we didn’t think we’d ever see one. There I am standing in front of a really nice fireplace. I am so excited; I whip out my cell phone and call Angie.



She screams in delight and says she can’t wait to see it…here it is Angie.

The owners have a young couple there visiting with their gorgeous baby girl. The daddy is a computer genius and he is putting together a DVD to advertise the resort. They have me to watch it critique it, and give them suggestions.

When they get it fixed, the highlight will definitely be the deck and the pool area they are planning. P only seems to be interested in being the entertainment.

They go on to explain their health theories to me, which have to do with keeping a general balance between alkaline and acidity in the body. Works for me.

I spend quite a while there, and then the guys take me back to Skycastles where I begin my packing. This day has been full of business, but it was very rewarding. One thing that can take my mind off being sad about leaving Jamaica is making plans that strengthen the business.
