that's the bougainvillea plant. comes in many, many colours. also has thorns. look beautiful when spilling over a wall. the brightly coloured parts are the bracts, the actual flower is tiny and white (you can see them in the photo above).

Oh gosh ... you know when I was a kid I always wanted to be a cheerleader - I went to a very small Lutheran School grades K - 8. In 7 & 8 the girls got to be the cheerleaders for the boys basketball team. 10 kids in my class, 5 boys and 5 girls, 4 girls were picked to be cheerleaders .... all cept me [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

When I think about it now, it is OK .... can you just imagine it .... I was as wide as I was tall (still am), stuffed into a turtle neck sweater and a tiny pleated skirt .... that skirt would probably have fit one thigh!! BOAL!! I remember this tree! We stopped and took several pictures of it, while we were on an exploring journey. Thanks for taking all of these great pictures that I am able to recognize. It is so strange to sit here and show my co-workers these pictures and say, "Oh, I've been there before"!

that's not sinkle bible either, meaning that it's not aloe vera. this plant some people call the century plant because it takes many decades before it blooms. it's a member of the agave family of cacti and succulents, and is related to the pingwing plant i mentioned early.

Laurel, she might as well have been wearing that shirt. My mom tends to go all out with stuff like this, and if every little detail isn't right, she can erupt. Initially she had a band booked to perform at Mama's party - but somehow the band got the dates mixed up and couldn't make it - a source of nuff arguments!

Then there was a fiasco about a hotel room she wanted to get for Mama for a few nights so she could just relax and then this icing business...I just did my best to stay out of her way at that point!

Soul Hunter, your trip report is a literary masterpiece! I have been totally engrossed since I discovered it and check the board REGULARLY for your latest installment.

I am a newbie to Jamaicans.com and have not posted very much, but I felt compelled to contribute my two cents to this thread.

Your report, as well as TIAT's, has given me a totally new perspective on our upcoming trip. The reports have awakened feelings and emotions I had the first time I visited Jamaica in the mid 1980's that had been relegated to the deep recesses of my being, by no choice of my own. I can't wait for my children to experience what is Jamaica - the sights, sounds, tastes, people, the reality of what is.

The anticipation of our trip is welling up in me, and I give thanks I have the opportunity to pacify it by living vicariously through your experiences.

That's unfortunate PS - I have very fond memories of Flankers. Perhaps one day in the near future, sanity will once again rule the land. I am somewhat still inclined to not surrender to the madness and march right into Flankers as any Jamaica should be able to do. Guess it will all depend on how I feel when next I visit Montego Bay...
