Re: Cultural Immersion in Little Bay
We do things like spend time at either Homer’s Cove (aka Brighton Beach) or Little Bay Beach, go to the bat cave (alas, during the day) or the Mineral Spring. C makes sure we have a hearty breakfast and dinner each night. P stops by to say hi, tidy up (why do I never feel like I am keeping things clean enough), help bathe the kids, etc. Slowly but surely, I feel I am being accepted. Instead of stopping by to make sure that we are okay, they come by for coffee, a cold drink, a beer, a glass of wine. The children know I have fruit and snacks, not to mention freeze pops. But they also bring me mangoes from the bush, and other little things to try.
A has hurt her back the day after we arrive. She has to go to the doctor, and has muscle pulls. We don’t see as much of her as I would like, but I understand. When she comes, it is an event. Her little girl was in utero last time I was here. She adores both of my kids, but she has a special connection with Jonah. She finally tells me they have met before. In fact, they have, haven’t they?
