I know I am not doing a very good job at responding to everyone's comments, and for that I apologize. I will, but I am trying to get the words down right now. Seveen, you have no idea how awesome it was - no TV, save a couple of DVD's I brought for some quite time, which had to be watched at Cudge's place. All of the wholesome play, and fresh air, and beach, and animals.....excuse me, yeyewata come now....

My niece Cole now has a JA.com ID (Colie7), so she may pop in and add something. She is reading, at least. IM and others, I expect you to help her with the Jamaicaholics creed....she has it bad. Exactly how do you juggle medical school and trips to Jamaica?

Thanks for your vivid responses to the calaloo and coconut queries.

What a bump your son suffered tumbling over the steps. Yes in retrospect, it turned out well, the healing as with time turns out well.

However, whats your thoughts on the grater that is used instead of osterizers to extract coconut milk?

you may be shocked to find this out Q...but here in the land of bacon and eggs...some of us still use the old fashioned grater.

LOL, Q....actually, Cudge couldn't find A's grater for days, so he did use the blender a couple of times. It was such a surreal mix of earthiness and modern technology. Which brings me to another thought.....when I did cook, I was frustrated because of limited counter space near the sink and stove, and I could not find a cutting board. I finally asked Cudge if he had one. He came back in a short time....had one that he had cut, and given an initial sand. We used it, but the day before we left he took it back and sanded and sealed it....and presented it to me as a gift. I oiled it when I got home.....maybe I can snap a photo of it. It is a prized possesion to say the least. There is not a lot that my friend could ever give me, but this board is a little piece of his soul. Here he is carrying it back to work on it.

I want to see your cutting board GB! Pretty please! What a treasure... On of my most valued possesions is a beautiful, perfect little shell, from Little Bay, I plan to make a necklace, using it as a focal bead....

OOPS, forgot to add...

Cole is welcome to visit us anytime over yonder....How to juggle? That will be a hard one. But, certainly with such a schedule as med school, she will need a break to chill out once in awhile.

Shocked the least. Jamaican householders mostly use osterizers or blenders nowadays. However our phenomenal power-cuts do lend us opportunity to always revert to manual usage of old tools such as the good grater.

The use of the coconut husk is another Jamaican memory where it was used as a brush to put the finishing sheen on floors after polishing by rubbing as one would when polishing shoes.

Okay, let's move onto some people, shall we?

This is Paula, she is awesome. Paula is one of those quiet but strong Jamaican woman...can work like a horse, has a hard time relaxing. I had met her before, as she worked in the resort, but I had not spoken with her on the phone...only news through her siblings. She adored my children, and cared for them as her own. Who was saying something about it takes a village to raise a child? I have always believed that, and Little Bay is that taken to a new level. Alanah is still saying, Aunty Paula said this, Aunty Paula said that....

This is Sophie and Tika....I think Tika is 6 or 7 weeks old. Sandy, where are you??? Sophie is quiet but fiesty and funny.....she had me in stitches with stories of how she hated everyone while she was pregnant....chased them from her yard....including her brother! That is even funnier when you realize that he has to pass through her yaad to get to his, until his road is done....

This is Dwayne....he was wonderful to us, as well. He is Cudge's best friend, and Tika's babyfadda....he didn't grow up in "the system" (those that work in resorts and Tourism) so he is learning from Cudge....his Patois accent is very think, but he improves everyday, and has the patience to repeat things, sometimes over and over....

My dear, sweet Anette....she was in so much pain. She and Cudge really grew up in the system, so they know it all inside out, and their "Queens" English is perfect. Anette moves like the wind normally, and is outspoken and efficient. She has worked in several resorts, and is a very strong "clerk of the works" type of person. Not to mention, that I adore her as a person....

This is Angela...she lives across from the family scheme, and she and her Mom have a shop up deh road....I bet some of you recognize her....

This is Damion....I didn't get a good picture of him....he is so sweet, but not pushy....Damion has brought me a special shell at the end of each trip to remember him by....
