Next trip I will take more photos. By the time I wanted to take the pics of our room the place looked like a wreck (the kids signature). There was always my daughters art studio set up right in the middle of the dining room area. The website has decent photos of the accomodations. I also love that they have floor plans of the place too.

I moved to a different little cottage behind the main building on Friday of that week. When I made the reservations I told them I was checking out on Friday. My original plan was to spend two days in Negril before moving on to our final destination. I loved TB so much I didn't want to leave on Friday. They had rented Paradise suite to someone a while back. No big deal I was anxious to check out every place.

The little cottage had a kitchen, separate dressing room off the master, master w/Queen and another bedroom with two twins. There was one bath and AC in the master, TVs in both bedrooms. No coffeemaker though [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] I am sure if I asked they would have provided one. It was named Hibiscus. It was very cute and cozy. Little suzrand just loved the place. There was a little hammock out front that she wouldn't get out of except to feed the goats.

The last day in TB I finally got around to taking a day trip. Sunset was great about setting up this trip and working me out a good deal. I had talked to Captain Kirk (he came highly recommended by Sunset as well as other guests who had used him through out the week) he quoted me $100 USD for the three of us. Captain Kirk was booked the day we decided to go. Sunset got me hooked up with Bernard (BB) for $90 for the three of us. I arranged to meet Bernard at Frenchman's at 8:30 am. We were a little slow in getting there and about 10 minutes late because I had some trouble getting the kids off this swing.

When we approached the coop at Frenchmans some men waved me over and told me that Bernard had headed to Sunset to check on us since we were a little late. One of the guys had called him on his cell phone and he was back within minutes ready to go. I had brought life jackets for my kids. I didn't use one myself, but noticed there were 4 or 5 nice ones in Bernard's boat.
Bernard (BB) and the Mr. Nice Guy. That he was. Very helpful. I felt safe with him. He pointed out many sights along our route. He was later very apologetic we never saw any dolphins. I highly recommend this man. He was also great with the kids. My two really liked him. Bernards cell # is (876) 433-0252.

We headed along the coast towards Black River. I loved checking out all the lodgings from the water. I had done extensive research on where to stay and loved seeing all the villas and places I had seen on the internet from the water. In the end I have to say I thought the location of Sunset was perfect for us.

We headed up along Billys Bay and Fort Charles. People please step in and help me here to remember the name of the place I am trying to describe. Up past the villa Unforgettable heading towards Black River there is the most unbelievable beach. It runs for about (12 Miles?) along the coast. I would love to check that out in the future. I hope some big hotel chain doesn't snatch it up

Beautiful colored clams would bury back down in the sand. I remember this as a child on the South Carolina beaches but no clams this large or bright colored.

At the mouth of the black river there was a flurry of activity. Welders working on boats, people along the river banks fishing, tour buses pulling up for the pontoon boat tours. This is the newly refurbished Riverside Cafe (I hope I got that right) in Black River.

Ready for some crocs folks?...

To back track a minute:

Bernard pulled up one of many crab traps in the water just around the entrance to Black River.


Right off the bat we spot these two. They were waiting patiently underneath a mangrove where some baby egrets were just testing their wings. My son thought they were fake (just to show you that he needs to get out more)

Headed up river.

We gave this guy a rope off the back of the boat and towed his canoe a good ways up the river. He was going to sell some fish. He took the time to show the kids all the different varieties. They were still flopping around in the canoe.

Spotted this croc swimming along further up river.

Pardon the next pic on the photo too. We learned about the mangroves - white, red and black. I believe the white and red are the ones right on the water?


It was so peaceful. I loved the area where the mangroves got really dense. I want to say there is one they call the rasta mangrove because it's roots resemble dreads.

We saw many beautiful water lilies blooming all along the sides of the river along with some beautiful purple flowers. We saw many osprey circling around overhead.

We made a stop on the river.

I loved this little place and the turnaround on the river. Sister Lou was running the place. Her specialty which came highly recommended was the stuffed crab. Outstanding.

Pardon the blurriness, but you get the idea of the stuffed crab.

This little one and his younger brother were playing in a Maul pile when we arrived (explains the dirt). He left our table happy with some cheetos and pepsi.

We took our time going up the river, but the way back towards the sea was done at a quicker pace. We were then off to the Pelican Bar.

yknow...I've never been all that interested in doing the Black River Trip....but now...well...you're making it look like fun.

that's so funny...he thought the croc was fake. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] I think you did quite a lot for a mom traveling alone with two small kids in tow.

your pics are nice...i think you'll be trouble with a digital...cause you can take soooooo many more pics.

Ooh...I love Sis Lou's crab! And I think the beach you mean is Parrottee...beautiful sand dunes there, tho I understand the crocs occasionally sun there [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Black River is so beautiful....

ohliz crocs. No thanks for me. I remember the name parrottee. But was that the beach where the crocs are or is that the ?12mile?beach? Or was that one in the same. It is a blur. Too much sun and stripes.

Welcome to the Pelican Bar. Little suzrand is wearing shoes - a recommendation if you are going to walk out on sandbar.

She was surrounded by pelicans and gulls. She went out where I didn't venture and reported lots of urchins. I didn't see any around the Pelican Bar.

I did more swimming in the sea at the Pelican Bar than I did at Treasure Beach. It was perfect for swimming and just floating around.


J. is not a fan of the sea. Claimed a crab "bit him" at Hilton Head, South Carolina. I think he had a hang nail get irritated by the salt water.

The store house? A packers fan added the flag.

Bye Pelican bar. We didn't spend too much time there. I can't say it was a great place for kids on this particular day. I would take the kids back though. I also had to check out of Sunset that afternoon and it was already about 12:30 pm. We had left by 8:45 am.

The ride back was against the surf and rougher. The kids viewed it as some kind of thrill ride and wanted to ride hands free. They kept asking Bernard to go faster. He mentioned that he didn't think it would be a good idea and that mom wouldn't be happy. I loved that he was very cautious and sensed if I was nervous about the surf. I had anticipated a rough ride and it was not near as rough as I thought it would be. It was fun. Somewhat bittersweet because I knew it would be our last adventure in TB.
