I’m On My Way To JA
So I have it all planned out. I will pack the Sunday before I leave on Thursday so that I won’t be up all night on Wednesday. OK.....so you know that didn’t happen.
I still didn’t get into bed until 1 or 2 in the morning. Little Miss has been sleeping in my bed all week since I’m leaving. I climb into bed and I can’t go to sleep. My mind is just running. Finally the alarm goes off. I get everything together. I’m happy because I know I’m not forgetting anything. Grab up Little Miss-still in her jammies-and head out to the car. My mother is dropping me off at the airport. We have a good convo in the car. We talked about blessings, Church folk and gratefulness. I know how blessed I am to be making this trip again. I get to the airport no problems. I listen to my child start her mantra for the trip. After I get back on Wednesday, me and Little Miss are supposed to be going to the Library(she has asked to get a book on dinosaurs) and to go out to Chucky Cheese. She asks me if I’m going to Jamaica. I say yes. She asks if I will take her to the library and to Chucky Cheese. I tell her when I get back. I give her and moms a hug and a kiss, grab my bags and enter the airport.
The line is blessedly short and before I know it I’m at the ticket counter. The lady behind the counter has a really kind face and a slight accent. She asks me if I have any lighters. I tell her no, but I have 4 books of matches. She looks at me funny and asks her associate how many books of matches can we carry on board. The other employee tells her 4. She looks at me winks and tells me that I can tell you have done your homework. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] I quickly get my tickets and am on my way. I stop at the first security check. I recognize the man asking for me ticket. When I left in August he was working at this station. He looks at me and asks is my name John Wright. I say huh and look at my tickets-they say John Wright. I go back over to the ticket counter and see an agent standing around. I tell her my problem and she tells me to bypass the line and to go back to the original agent that had processed my tickets. I give the lady the tickets and she is extremely sorry. Ahh-no problems-who cares I’m on my way to JA.
Go back through the metal detector. Get searched because I forgot and packed my manicure scissors in my carry on. They confiscate them, but I don’t care......I’m on my way to JA. I get a bottle of water(the only thing I forgot to pack) and sit down and open up my Essence. I’m reading for a few minutes when an older gentleman taps me on the shoulder. In a Jamaican accent he asks if I can help him. He tells me that there is some machine that he needs to use to get on the plane, but he has never used a computer. I have no idea what he is talking about, but I say-Ok, I’ll try to help you. He explains that he is going back to JA. I ask him how long he has been in the States and he tells me 2 months. Wow that’s a nice visit. We walk all the way to the other end of the departures area and there is a machine for foreign visitors. It’s a touch screen. He tells me that he has been waiting in front of the machine for 20 minutes. At the front desk they told him that someone would be there to assist him using the contraption. So I read the screen and try to follow the directions. I’m supposed to insert his passport into the machine. I can’t figure out how to do it. I try, but I don’t want to bash up his passport, so I start looking for help. No help to be found. I pick up the courtesy phone, but it is for 911 emergencies. I drop that sucker. I’m in an airport-cops would probably start running out with guns. Finally I try again and I figure it out. The man has to insert his passport and then put both index fingers on a scanner. The computer prints out a paper with his name on it and a barcode that he has to hand in when he gives the fight attendant his tickets. He says thanks and we make the long trek back to the waiting area. The convo is strained. I think he is kind of embarrassed that he couldn’t figure out the machine. I try to give him his space. I tell him have a safe trip home and return to my seat.
All too soon they are calling rows 35 to 25. Of course, I now have to use the bathroom. As I make my mad dash another man with a Jamaican accent stops me. He asks can I call his sister Viola and tell her that they are boarding. I say Ok. I run into the bathroom and say Viola. A Jamaican lady comes out saying-Yes Dear. I told her that her brother is outside waiting for her. They have started boarding. She thanks me and hurries out of the bathroom. I’m in the bathroom doing the happy dance because I’ll soon be in the sky. 
I head back just in time for my boarding call. Breeze onto the plane. I asked for an aisle seat because the plane was almost sold out and I didn’t want to be squished near the window. As I’m making my way up the aisle I catch the fight attendant’s eye. Can we say cute-talk about the friendly skies 
. He holds my eyes for that couple of seconds too long (ya’ll know that look). I smile and blush, he asks for my ticket and tells me where my seat is. Yeah-I’m definitely on my way to JA now.

My friends and I were also on the plane out of BWI that day. Do you remember the girl going off at the counter because she didn't bring the correct birth certificate? By any chance did you do Mayfield Falls on Saturday? We went with Soloman, but his Uncle Dave had a group of ladies who were right behind us. It was a great trip. Looking forward to more of your report.Comment

Wow that was us behind you at Mayfield. Nope I missed the fireworks at the ticket counter. Was that your group up at Three Dives. One of the ladies in your group passed out?

Wow, what a wonderful coincidence. I had a feeling that was you behind us at the falls. I've been following all of your posts on this board and the other one. The girl making a scene was my friend. They had to go back to Baltimore and get the birth certificate and take a later flight on American Airlines. What a bad start to a vacation. That was me who passed out at 3 Dives. I didn't drink all day to save myself for our cliff trip and right as our dinner came out I felt lightheaded and boom down I went. I was stuck in the room until we left on Tuesday because I wasn't feeling any better. In fact that morning I went to Selina's to get my coffee and almost passed out again. It was pretty scary. I have no idea why it happened, but I do remember hitting my head on the bamboo on the hut at the falls. Now, on with your report. I'm loving it.Comment

Well I'm glad that you are Ok now. We were worried sitting at the next table watching you pass out. You faded at least 3 times. We thought that you were dehydrated. I think I saw your post on Negril.com. When I was on the board I saw that someone was leaving on the same day as me. I wanted to yell out-anybody here from Negril.com-but of course I didn't want a bunch of strangers to look at me like-who is the crazy American! Yep-I’m In Jamaica
So no problems with the flight. That cute flight attendant is flirting with a cute young lady sitting in the isle across from me. I pick back up my Essence and start to read. I’m sitting next to a nice older white couple. The husband was older(they looked to be in their 60s) and it was so nice how the wife took care of him. You could just tell that they loved each other by their mannerisms. The flight attendant tried to talk to me later-asking me about my music selection, what reggae artist I liked and what I was reading. I could see my neighbor across the isle listening. Opps-not trying to steal your man. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] He was nice to look at though. Now, I’m kinda glad that I didn’t have the window seat. This was the first trip to JA for the couple sitting next to me. It’s a special experience to see the ocean and to be able to get your first glimpse of JA from the sky. I’d already experienced it and it was nice to watch them experience it for the first time. We made our nice smooth landing and everybody started cheering and clapping. Before I know it I was walking off the plane and was hit with the warm Caribbean air.
I walk into immigration and just start laughing. Imagine-every line was so long that they not only reached the back wall off the room, but they all wrapped around.
I walked to the right until I found a line that appeared shorter, but who cares-I’m in JA. Luckily I’ve been obsessively combing the net so I knew that the line would probably be long as many flights come in at this time. I enjoyed my time in line. I love people watching. I have a Southern couple behind me with their daughter. She appears to be in her late teens early twenties. Moms and daughter were cracking me up. I didn’t have to worry about anybody butting into the line. They were quick to tell people that this ain’t the back, so move all the way back younder up against the far wall. A good-looking young black couple in front of me was going to Negril to get married. She had her hair in these micromini braids all upswept. Slowly the line crept up. Children everywhere were having fits (who could blame them). Finally I get to the front. No problems. Go downstairs and get my one huge piece of luggage. No problems. I now enter the busy exit. I already know the drill so when approached-nope I got a ride. A tall cute guy walks up to me and asks do I need a ride. When I say no, he asks me out. I smile and think-Yep I’m in Jamaica.
